Read the sticky "How to get help", and let us know your hardware, wine version, drivers, etc.
This is spot on
I NEVER run any of that. Not needed, EXCEPT vcrun6 (I think ver2 or something)
Actually, that is not needed (wine64). a "fresh" wine1.5 installs as 64bit (if running 64 bit Ubuntu), with an option to run 32bit.
By default, any prefixes made are 64bit. If you want (or the Win...
As an addendum to the above:
I am currently waiting on hardware for my cable/internet, and am stuck for the time being, on a GPRS phone tether for my internet, and as such, no WoW, or any patches...
Your video hardware is technically the same as mine. The processor difference is almost a wash, so I mostly expect the same FPS as my setup. However, mine has been "optimized" over MANY years (since...
Still don't know the hardware you are using.
**Personally, I prefer "running" (and in my case, faster than Windows) than "pretty"
If I can see it, I can kill it. If I cannot see it, no matter...
We need to know what Graphics Hardware you're running (I.E. Ati/AMD, Nvidia, Intel, whatever)
And (only if NOT Intel) what driver version you have
Are you running in "-opengl" mode or just D3D?...
You may want to upgrade/update wine, too.
Read the stickies in this forum on adding the repo, then
sudo apt-get install wine1.5
Sorry..Didn't read the whole thing.
You already have wine 1.5 installed. Trying to install regular wine will fail (as you have seen)
Go ahead and delete the wine folder you just made.
Then:...
Try:
sudo apt-get install wine1.5
Makes a difference
I've bben playing on WoW/wine since the beginning ("Vanilla").
Most of the time, WoW/wine runs faster in OpenGL than Windows/D3D (at least, on my hardware).
But I've NEVER run it on ATi/AMD....
Just search this forum for "wow+wine+intel"
And good luck. Intel/WoW/wine is a bugger (Blame it on Wintel)
Try this (in terminal):
export WINEARCH=win32
export WINEPREFIX=~/<Whatever wine folder you want to make>
winecfg
winetricks
First line sets up a 32bit wine environment
Second line sets...
There's also a Linux Vent Server, too. Free has only 8 people, but...
mfc42 seems borked in winetricks right now.
Try
winetricks vbrun6sp6 instead.
Works for me.
Do you have the ATi Proprietary drivers installed?
Odds are, if your laptop uses Intel graphics at all, it would either run horribly slow, or not at all. There are SOME workarounds that SOMETIMES work, but... (Search this forum for "Intel+WoW" )
...
Forget Vent client. Unless you have to admin the channel, Mangler does a MUCH better job
Actually, if you just do the "install" part, it IS solved
It's the mucking around after that with symlinks, non-existent folders, etc, that doesn't work.
Just use
sudo apt-get install...
Already installed, and no such directory.
Not a noob to Linux, already have all the stuff needed, I'm just saying:
THERE IS NO DIRECTORY
/usr/lib32/i386-linux-gnu on a clean 12.04 install
...
This is NO directory of i386-linux-gnu on a "clean" 12.04 install, so from the highlighted part o, your "solved" is NOT SOLVED
Using winetricks, I had same issue.
Instead of plain old vcrun6, I installed vcrun6sp
env WINEPREFIX=/home/<USER>/<Whatever prefix you want> winetricks vcrun6sp6
Works perfect
Your "install" creates a few issues:
The original, being on a NTFS drive, will run HORRIBLE. Best if you copy the game files from the Windows side to a folder on the Linux side
Does your game...
That is SO out of whack to my question...
I'm NOT:
Installing another OS when this one does everything I want. If I wanted to change, it would be back to Slackware.
Limiting Internet
