Have you applied the UnifiedLinuxDriver?
Google for it, download and untar it, and follow the listed install instructions
I've posted replys about this one before (I think also in the Mint forums)
It can be a graphics card issue
but generally if one takes the time to update the BIOS
this will resolve that situation...
Usually the "Something wicked happened resolving..." is an indication that your DNS configuration is unable to resolve the address that it is trying to resolve
Are you behind a proxy maybe?
Maybe...
Hey... this reply is way, way overdue!
I am sure by now you have this one figured out... but for posterity's sake, the solution is really simple:
add this to the launcher's properities
...
With Nautilus 3.4.2...
By default when it starts, depending on whether one is going to /home or a mounted device, the system menu icon and the home path or media path are not displayed.
The...
OK, found a solution... finally!
I figured if the other Color Schemes could display a color there had to be a solution
I found these schemes are configured by xml files in...
Yeah... good question!
I have a mate who uses another distro and in that System Settings there are other apps that we don't see in Ubuntu's--other than existing in the Applications folder. So I...
sudo apt-get install gnome-system-tools
It's listed under the avatar...
And I recall it working okay in 11.10 too
Currently even though in gedit prefs, 'highlight current line' is selected, the current line actually isn't.
The default color scheme is 'classic'.
If I select any other scheme, then I see a...
Is there any way to leave the clock-date-calendar-locations 'dialog' permanently displayed?
Maybe reverse the action...by default the calendar content is always showing and clicking the clock...
Further developments on my side...
I have disabled the dynamic switching off!
I don't mind the greeter wallpaper being different from the current desktop!
On how to do that can be found here
IF NikTH's solutions are working for you great!
If not, again in that terminal--Ctrl+Alt+F1--what you should try is first get 'gdm' installed
sudo apt-get install gdmThe above command assumes...
Also before you login...
If you were to press Ctrl+Alt+F1
does that take you to a login prompt that you can see?
It would seem so mate... but lets see what we can do anyway to get you to see the greeter screen.
So when you power up your machine...
you get a blank screen...
nothing visual only an auditory...
It means that on the greeter screen, after you enter your password, instead of using the Enter key to continue, you select that "greater than" symbol (that is to the right of your password input)...
Mmm... seems that if you suspect that logging in is not gonna do it for you
instead of pressing the Enter key
select the character > rather at the end of the login button
Apparently this is documented elsewhere... but be that as it may, this is just one of the reasons--there are more--why I switched to Audacious!
It's kinda hard to help you...
You don't say how or with what you did that.
And "better" is way too vague...
+1
and...
what the heck, let's give a BIG +1 for Audacious too!
It's another new day... and yes, it starts with another fresh install!
The problem I have with mendhak's solution is simply that I don't have any internet connection at that point in time and so...
@Mike235
Perfect. That means the commands themselves are there.
Don't waste your time (via your 3G) trying to install a gdm environment.
Rather try and get this wallpaper fixed so that you can log...
Bummer... 'cos it does work so shouldn't it on your setups...?
Ok. Umm... and resetting Unity with a... 'unity --replace' ?
Does that change anything?
Bummer!
If you just run 'gsettings' or even 'gconftool-2' by themselves...?
