i`m using ubuntu 14.4 and steam will not install latest updates installed today

i am new to ubuntu are there any FPS games suitable for ubuntu? is it possible to run say black mesa or half life?

i am trying to install 14.04 64bit on my main system with duel boot.
my graphics card is amd radeon hd7700 series with vga and hdmi o/p.
when i boot from dvd instalation disk my monitors display...

configuration: driver=i915 latency=0
is returned
does that mean i am using the correct driver?

i am running the 14 beta and grapics indicates i`m using vesa standard graphics i.e. no intel driver installed i tried installing intel-linux-graphics-installer_1.0.3_i386.deb(from intel site)

try to google skype ver 4.2.0.11 for unix and install that the latest download ver 4.2.0.13-1 did not work from the skype download page on my system(an old ibm think centre resurected with ubuntu)...
