I'm still a bit stuck on this one. I've removed and blacklisted the r8169 driver, and installed the r8168 driver.
dmesg | grep r816*
produces
r8168 182616 0
so that all seems in order....

Hi folks~
I'm running Xubuntu 10.04 on a Gateway NV laptop. When using Firefox, if I select either top/bottom scroll arrow on the right side of the browser window, it immediately goes into a...
Thank you- that referenced the drive correctly. It ended up having so many bad sectors that I couldn't reformat it or repair the file system, so had to order a new one.
Thanks so much!
I'm running 9.04, working in Emacs. Apparently, from what I can see, there is some failure of the file system or superblock partition; I'll be working along just fine when suddenly all of the data...
Not so far. I took the easy way out and ran the diagnostics manually in a spreadsheet and then picked a semester project that was connected with my dissertation so I didn't have to use Primer! :-)
I wasn't sure under which forum heading to post this; my apologies if this isn't correct!
I have a website hosted by Register4Less.com, and I need some sort of web analytic software that can...
Nothing at all.
I reviewed the link you provided- it had some new stuff I haven't tried before. Unfortunately, I get a stream of error messages far too long to post, generally about an error in...
I guess I should have mentioned that one. :-p
Won't mount from the command line.
Hi folks~
I had a 4GB USB drive suddenly stop being detected yesterday. Plugging it in and running
dmesg
produces
No hijack intended: what if I want to ADD an older kernel? I've enabled the Hardy repositories and run
sudo apt-get update
but the older kernels (rt kernels) don't appear in Synaptic. I've...
That works too, but I wanted to keep everything within my local user profile.
Thanks again, Brandon!
Anyone who has ever had a basset hound in their family knows that dogs already have the ability to reason! :-)
Most excellent!! Thank you- I knew that the dash shell existed but didn't know much about it or how it interacted with bash and general system dynamics. That may have solved everything- I'm not quite...
I've been having trouble with this for a while, and had another thread open, but it's shifted to a different arena so I thought I'd open a new one with a more precise title.
I'm trying to...
You might try simply running
sudo apt-get -f update
sudo apt-get -f upgrade
in the command line to see if that fixes any corrupted files or missing dependencies that are maybe skulking...
Never mind- I'm a dork. :-p
Got it fixed and working.
Well, if you were upgrading from a previous version online, I don't think there's any way to perform a "downgrade" except by clean install.
If you have all your data backed up on a separate media...
Argh!!
I'm sorry!!
I'm having that issue as well, but I didn't think it was connected at all with the nVidia driver. Did a normal reboot produce the same results as before??
I think I'm at...
Thanks, Yhan.
Now if I understand it correctly, you are able to boot into the gui, but the graphics are not correctly aligned, yes?
Try this- I had similar issues and this resolved the nVidia...
Can you post the contents of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file?
Addendum:
I checked my router and it shows the hard-connection as being functional, but that might simply means it can detect the computer at the other end of the line, not necessarily that...
Well, swat my hind with a melon rind!
I never would have thought of that, as my computer is hard jacked into the Net. But you are correct:
ping 64.208.34.100
produces:
Network is...
Upgraded from Ibex to Jaunty.
Unable to boot into Gnome, initially from nVidia driver problems that have been resolved. At this point, unable to boot into Gnome due to (I think) some kernel...
Most excellent, Merlinus! That was helpful!
I configured the xorg.conf file by adding the two blocks dealing with the specifics of my nVidia card, ran
sudo telinit 3
and it opened to a...
Yes, Presence; I tried that too. The response from running xfix is a post-installation warning that a customized configuration may have been overwritten, and the backup file is given. The file,...
