Just wanted to update. It appears that after I upgraded alsa, for some reason external audio was muted in the Volume Control. After raising it, external sound worked fine :)

So, I still cant find my external cd/dvd player, so i bought another one. Hopefully I'll find it within 30 days so I can return the second one back. So, more delay on using the Ubuntu Live DVD to...
