  1. Re: Ubuntu 12.04/ Windows 7 dual boot Grub2 Boot Repair Issue

Thanks, all, for the help and suggestions.
I wound up reverting to "legacy" bios mode and reinstalling.
As you may have guessed, everything went smoothly and I now have a functional system.
  2. Re: Ubuntu 12.04/ Windows 7 dual boot Grub2 Boot Repair Issue

I think the issue is actually with the Bios. I've done some looking and found many complaints that Gigabyte's UEFI implementation is questionable.
I have no option in bios to select anything other...

  9. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu is not accepting my password after opening the GUI

Excellent. That explains it. The AMD instructions tell you to do 'sudo startx' if the X Server doesn't start correctly. I did so, obviously not aware of the full implications.
    Thanks for your...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu is not accepting my password after opening the GUI

Not to hijack the thread, but could this permission have been changed by installation of the AMD drivers and, if so, could that have been the cause of the failure of the drivers to work? When I...

I'm having the same issue. Mine started after installing AMD proprietary drivers, having them fail to work, then uninstalling. This was all done following the linked instructions on AMD's website. ...
