Re: Gnome3 PPA is getting ready

I assume you uninstalled the gnome-session package, a pure upgrade will do that because of dependencies. you need to reinstall it. and get rid of gnome-session-common, iirc.

Re: Proposed Ubuntu "pure Gnome" respin

Yes, Gnome3 with Gnome Shell. From what I understand ppl want a distro with this plus the classic gnome desktop, right? I don't think it should be actively pursued by Canonical, but i have no problem...

Re: Proposed Ubuntu "pure Gnome" respin

I think it would be ok to have a gnome3 spin of ubuntu, as long as it doesn't shift Canonical's focus away from Ubuntu. As long as we get proper packaging to do this in the universe repository i...
  8. Re: Ubuntu 11.04 May Default To Classic GNOME Desktop ?

This would be a good decision, imo. Both Unity and Gnome Shell are clearly lacking some fundamental options and stability too. They both need to mature before being used by a proper distro. It's like...

Re: Gnome3 PPA is getting ready

honestly, I think both gnome-shell and unity have strong and weak points, but at the same time, i feel like both are a step backwards (at this point!) from the classic gnome. If this is what we will...

Re: Gnome3 PPA is getting ready

It looks like the PPA is missing a package for gnome-icon-theme-symbolic? which makes gnome-shell impossible to install, is there a way around this or should I just wait?

Re: Gnome3 PPA is getting ready

How will this work when the packaging is done? Will we need to uninstall ubuntu-desktop or anything else or will it be a clean update?

Re: Have you changed your mind about Unity?

I like the idea behind unity, I always thought Ubuntu should design his own desktop experience, but to be honest, I don't think this is ready to be used. I know we're still in beta and it really is a...
  14. [SOLVED] Re: I uninstalled Compiz now Intel lost Visual Effects

i guess this is the downside of trying to do the dirty work for the user in a system like Ubuntu: confusing ppl :) can't help but wonder what confusions can the Software Center cause as well
  15. Re: what is the new official way to install LAMP?

the difference is that deleting the task cleans the system better imo as it deletes all the packages of that task. meta-packages at most put them in autoremove, if you had installed the packages...

what's the situation with the font if anyone have news? The public beta never happened, is this still going to make it to maverick?
  19. Re: Can I purge everything that did not come with the default install?

You can begin by purging every package maintained by the community, in the universe and multiverse repositories. Then if you don't mind reinstalling a lot of things, you could run tasksel and...
