When you run alsamixer can you please press F6 and let us know if it lists more than one sound card? If it does have a look at the other one. :-)

Finally solved it, although probably not pure HD audio coming therough.
Followed the link and added latest alsa drives to no availa.

Are you running LCDd?
Something is running that is taking control of lcd0 and not allowing you to use it.
Not sure how helpful this will be as this was for way back in ubuntu 6.10:
Do you have lcd0 in /dev?
If you do then check its permissions. Ensure your user can read and write to it. Then try the following:
echo "Hello World" > /dev/lcd0

What graphics card do you have and which drivers are you using?
Were you able to scan for channels with mythtv?
Could you set mythtv to record a channel and see what happens?
If it does start to record, then try viewing that recording.
not sure that would work as part of the setup locks the ftp user to the specified ftp directory as a security measure. Therefore it probably would not follow a symbolic link.
