Fair enough, CelticWarrior, but my question isn't so much about whether I should have expected it to work. In fact it wasn't about that at all. It was about interaction with launchpad's...
Is it also the user's fault that the launchpad bug-reporting system isn't providing any feedback at all? The user's fault that the PPA Team leader does not respond to inquiries?
I understand your...
Thanks for the follow-ups, guys! Sorry about getting it in the wrong place, wildmanne39.
guiverc: Yes to all questions. The PPA is still maintained, the package I downloaded is for the release...
Don't know where else to post this, so I hope this is the appropriate sub-forum.
Attempted to install an app from a launchpad ppa. The install errored-out. Ok: Off to file a bug report.

Ah! Great, 1fallen. Thank you very much!
Ran into this bug when trying to bring up a new 16.04 LTS server: Exceptional levels of kernel spam about “MR_DCMD_PD_LIST_QUERY failed/not supported by firmware”
It appears it was patched back in...
That did the trick, DuckHook! Thanks again!
Only it was -112. Got the notification. Did the "dist-upgrade." Noticed that none of the image stuff happened. Followed your directions. Fixed :)
Thanks, DuckHook! I'll give it a try.
Hi All,
Had a problem with my server that I mistakenly thought was a driver issue. (Problem coincidentally started on the same day as the update/upgrade to 3.13.0-110, so it seemed a reasonable...

This may be a GNU tar question. TBH: I've never experienced anything like this, before, in some twenty years admin'ing *nix systems.
Environment: Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS on a Dell PowerEdge 2600. ...
Solved. Problem was probably from not following the referenced "how to" exactly. I'd gotten to the part about editing /etc/ldapscripts/ldapscripts.conf, saw the comments therein about "DEBIAN:...
Hi There,
Have been following this documentation: OpenLDAP Server
After Access Control, skipped the TLS and Replication and TLS sections, went right to LDAP Authentication
Got as far as

No, GC does not do what TRIM does.
In order for an SSD to do on its own what TRIM does, it would have to know about every different filesystem type, RAID implementation, (logical) volume manager...
The problem with that, and the reason I didn't finally give up on software RAID and go with a RAID card, is no TRIM support.
No TRIM support is a problem. SSDs internally shuffle used blocks...
I gave up on mdadm & FakeRAID. Spent about a week trying to get it going. Tried Ubuntu, Mint and CentOS. Tried every trick in the book, and even invented some new ones. Even when I could get...
Got it, guys. Thanks!

Hi All,
How can I easily find out what is the current latest stable kernel version for a particular release? (IOW: What I'd be running if I was up-to-date?)
Thanks,
Jim
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rsyslog/+bug/1187820
Thanks for the pointer, Toz. That allowed the upgrade to succeed, but I'm still missing most of my logging. In fact: The only logging I'm getting is Apache. Nothing new in syslog. Nothing new in...
I don't think that's going to address the problem.
I think it's hanging because rsyslog no longer starts/stops properly. For example:
./rsyslog start
Rather than invoking init scripts...
This cannot be good:
$ /usr/sbin/rsyslogd -d

Have tried removing the rsyslog package so I can reinstall it. Can't, because it also wants to remove ubuntu-minimal. Have tried --reinstall. No go: Hangs the same way.
