Start with Ubuntu, definitely, but it might be an idea to give Kubuntu a try as well. Who knows, you might like it better :)

[all variants] Re: Best Linux for Celeron M

All of them! All that support x86 architectures anyhow. There's no wrong processor for Linux, as long as it's powerful enough to support the distro.

To start, I'd recommend the old favourites -...

    [ubuntu] Re: April Updates

Yes, well noted. 8.10 will still be officially supported (as in, important updates will still be released for it) until the release of 10.04, in April 2010, so you don't have to do anything until...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: How to Restore from Dell Ubuntu Reinstallation Media

Heh, I meant that in more of a "are you in need right now, or just wondering" sort of way. :) But I can't imagine that the restoration DVD would include much that the normal Ubuntu installation CD...

Whoa, slow down. Before you start talking about email, are you properly connected to the Internet on Ubuntu right now, or are you not? Open Firefox on Ubuntu and load a web page to find out.

Photoshop only works perfectly up to CS. CS2 and CS3 work partially (silver rating) and CS4 doesn't work at all.

    [ubuntu] Re: GIMPshop

It's a matter of taste. Yes, you will lose functionality, but you should be able to replicate most of what you do in Photoshop. Gimpshop is not in the repos and there is no Linux download on the...

    [ubuntu] Re: April Updates

No, you will need to do a large upgrade when 9.04 rolls round.

This is because it introduces new features and configurations, and to keep the OS constant, routine upgrades for any version don't...
  11. [ubuntu_studio] Re: Installing Ubuntu Studio on Sylvania g netbook meso

AFAIK there's no such artificial limitation, but it could be that your machine doesn't have enough RAM to support the LiveCD interface. In other words, it can't load enough from the CD at once for...

Just searched - that doesn't appear to be a known image file type. Where did you get it?
  13. [ubuntu] Re: How to Restore from Dell Ubuntu Reinstallation Media

Try booting from the DVD - you may need to change your BIOS settings (put the DVD drive first in the boot order).

Out of interest, why do you want to know?

    [ubuntu] Re: Updates

The way I sorted out this problem for me, was to find the Launchpad URL of the PPAs that were giving me trouble, for example this:

  16. [ubuntu] Re: How can I play my DVD collection on Ubuntu?

    Yes!

First of all, add the repos as shown here.

    Then, just run this command:

    sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2

...and with any luck, you should be able to play DVDs just fine. :)
  17. [ubuntu] Re: Multiple monitors - but question really is how I get admin privileges

Or you could [LINK REMOVED] run the entire system as root, but this is not without its dangers. Be warned!

    [SOLVED] Re: HDD cloning

Yes, do it from a LiveCD. And if you copy the *entire* disc, in other words everything on it (including MBR), then yes, it will copy your dual boot setup perfectly.
