Another way to look at it though, if Ubuntu never evolved, it would have gone stale. Ubuntu is a business and businessess have to turn a profit, if it was just throwing out un-innovative releases...

What you're seeing is GDM, the gnome login manager, when you log in, are you getting onto unity fine? If so, you just need to change your login manager.
