Your best bet would be to install 8.04 and use those drivers. My wifes laptop has a radeon 9600 and its the only way I can get gl enabled to its full capabilities.

I had a similar problem with this. Samba doesnt like to share ntfs unless the owner of that partition is root. All I had to do to fix it was mark it as the owner being root with full read/write...

What about enabling the share using samba and mounting the folders you want? Pretty simple to do and it works great.

There is a gui option if you would have looked in the repos you would have seen that. So dont blast something before you even look everytime I find a need for something Ive always found it in a repo....
