Re: Mac-style Menu Bar for GTK and Java/Swing applications!

I don't know about Gnome Shell (have you Googled around?), but Unity of course uses a global menu and KDE also has a global menu Plasma widget that worked really well last I recall.
  2. [all variants] What kind of hardware should I be looking at to scale to ~20k users continually?

Let's say I'm running Apache Wave on Ubuntu Server 10.04 x86-64, and I'll have approximately 20000 active users from August to January (with many more after that time).

    The network this will be...

[ubuntu] Re: How to activate Moonlight 2.0 in google-chrome?

Hm, apparently it's a codec problem. It crashes in Chromium for me as well, but in Firefox it prompts to install codecs. Installing the codecs in Firefox and moving...

[ubuntu] Re: How to activate Moonlight 2.0 in google-chrome?

Just extract the contents of the plugins folder in the .xpi archive to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/. I just tried it and it works.

Re: Why KDE 4.2 will rock

Why is everyone so down on Kubuntu? I don't know about openSUSE, but IMO Kubuntu's KDE 4 is far superior to that of Fedora 10 and Debian. It has some really useful patches applied by the Kubuntu devs...

Re: Why KDE 4.2 will rock

I did. It was agreed upon that D3lphin and Dolphin were different (even in KDE 3). I was just clearing up that "D3lphin" also wasn't the correct command (which was obvious anyways :-P).

[ubuntu] Re: [SOLVED] Help w/Laptop's Built-in Wireless

By the way, the wireless card works out of the box with the ath9k driver included in 2.6.27 included in Intrepid, aside from the light always being orange.
  10. Re: What is the lamest reason for giving up on Ubuntu/Linux you've ever heard?

Okay, fair enough. I guess I should rephrase what I said earlier then: remember: if you aren't making administrative changes or accessing files without appropriate permissions, root access probably...
  11. Re: What is the lamest reason for giving up on Ubuntu/Linux you've ever heard?

Just a small tip: you don't need to be root to run aptitude/apt-cache search or show (remember: if you aren't making administrative changes, root access probably isn't necessary). Just thought that...

I don't actually know much about this type of thing, but would it not be possible to recreate the Firefox menubar options inside the globalmenu whenever it detects that Firefox is the active window,...

[ubuntu] Re: [SOLVED] Help w/Laptop's Built-in Wireless

Good news: Under a fairly fresh install of Ubuntu SE Hardy i386, I got wireless working by following gabsik's instructions (I think last time I tried I forgot to reboot the one of the times). Caveat:...

[ubuntu] Re: [SOLVED] Help w/Laptop's Built-in Wireless

Hi. I also have a Compaq C770us, but I wasn't able to get wireless working with those instructions on Ubuntu 8.04.1 amd64. What exactly did you do (and were you using i386 or amd64)? Thanks.

    Ubuntu 8.10 Name Discussion

As of now, the chosen name for Ubuntu 8.10 is "Intrepid Ibex" (which doesn't actually follow the standard Ubuntu naming scheme...).

I personally think it should be "Icy Ibex" (it sounds kinda cool...
  23. Re: Suggestion: addrepo - easy way to add repositories
