    Archive manager is already the default file opener - double-clicking the file invokes archive manager - which then complains.

    As you say, KMZ files are just KML(plus possibly graphics files)...

    This worked for me with a ATI HD2600 card:

    Go to recovery mode,and to root prompt:

    apt-get remove fglrx*
    apt-get install xorg-driver-fglrx
    aticonfig --initial -f

    Then reboot.

    Oops! spoke too soon. After an hour, the data rate started varying - going down to 10Kb/s, and then back up to 500kb/s. After about 3 hours, it permanently slowed to less than 10kb/s for downloads.
