Let me begin by saying, this is for a school assignment, so please please teach me to fish rather than give me one.

[ubuntu] Re: Panel Trash Icon won't empty

It's funny, it started behaving normally again this morning. Apparently the solution is to quit messing with it, have a few Guinness beers, and go to sleep.

    Hope this solution helps others.

[ubuntu] Re: Panel Trash Icon won't empty

It had 1 file there, but deleting it didn't solve the problem. However, I did notice in Nautilus the sidepane shows my trash file empty. I closed my sudo nautilus and the terminal and opened...

[ubuntu] Re: Panel Trash Icon won't empty

Both folders (files & info) are empty. I used dir to look, and sudo dir to see if it was maybe a permission thing. Still shows both as empty.

  8. Re: Basic question about python's while command

And thanks, Can +~. That makes sense also.
  9. Re: Basic question about python's while command

    Ah, gotcha. Thanks.
  10. Re: Basic question about python's while command

Ok, so it's not checking to see if something is true; the while statement is being told that it IS true, so it runs indefinitely until the break command ends the loop because it is always true. Am I...
  11. Basic question about python's while command

I'm using the Think Python online textbook to teach myself python. In the Iteration chapter we're given some code examples to hash together to estimate a square root. In this example, can you tell...

    [ubuntu] Wep key to passphrase

At my office today, I helped set up a friend's wireless. Our network has a wep key. At my house I use wep also, and generated the key using a personal word as my passphrase that generated my wep...
  13. Re: The python int() function doesn't work with raw_input()

Ok, here's a question that was buried in my original question. Is this the correct forum for someone who's learning python? I read the stickies, but none said outright whether it's ok or not to ask...
  14. Re: The python int() function doesn't work with raw_input()

    Ah, ok.

Thanks both for the answer and the tip. I'm learning stuff slowly but surely.
  15. The python int() function doesn't work with raw_input()

I'm using the "Think Python" text to try to learn Python on my own. I ran into a question yesterday and asked on this forum. I've run into a question tonight. I read through "Read before posting"...

  19. [ubuntu] Re: Starting Administrative Application never works.

Apparently my computer was just sleepy. Shut it down, packed it up and left it in my laptop bag overnight, just turned it back on (around 24 hours later) and it's working.

    So apparently it was...

  21. [ubuntu] Re: Starting Administrative Application never works.

The advice from that thread meets the same result.

  22. [ubuntu] Re: Starting Administrative Application never works.

Ok, while I was perusing synaptic after opening it with "sudo synaptic" the terminal popped this little gem up for me:
