    [kubuntu] Re: error when trying to stop lightdm

    Since 12.10 Kubuntu uses LightDM, if you upgraded from 12.04 kdm might even be broken.

    Is there something hogging the CPU before you issue the command?
    Perhaps the syslog or the dmesg log can...

    Re: Configure network through terminal

    The IP-addresses between the "" are actual IP-addresses I presume?
    Is there in the 'interfaces' file also a dot after the netmask IP-address? If so it shouldn't be there.

    [ubuntu] Re: Help cant log in to desktop

    What is the output of:

    ls -l /home/andrew

    Or if this throws a permission error make it:

    sudo ls -l /home/andrew

    I'm assuming you still have sudo rights.

  4. Re: /etc/fstab does not work but mount does....why?

    You are trying to mount a network file system. Are you sure that at the time of booting the network interface is up?

    [kubuntu] Re: Rsync Script Help, Bash Related.

    You can make use of "&&".
    For example:

    #!/bin/bash
    rsync -a /home/jason/ jason@192.168.1.100:/media/storage/jason/&& Completed=1
    if [ $Completed == 1 ]; then

    Re: SSH : Connection refused

    You're right, it should be a -t instead of a -u. Ssh is of course a tcp connection.

    [kde] Re: keyboard shortcuts not working

    A few things come to mind. Have you checked in the System Settings -> Shortcuts and Gestures if the keyboard shortcuts are enabled?

    Have you upgraded to KDE 4.10? I've heard that for some people...

    Re: SSH : Connection refused

    Is the ssh server listening to port 22?
    You can see if something is listening to port 22 with the command:

    netstat -lnpu|grep 22

    If you have a line as follows:

    0.0.0.0:22 0.0.0.0:*...

    [ubuntu] Re: Do I have malware?

    To me the log seems normal. It could be that you are running out of ram, if that is so the system will start to swap, in other words write to the disk. You can see what is writing to the disk with...

    Re: Install ubuntu from a pen drive

    Have you tried C.S.Cameron advice? I had a similar problem a few days ago. Made the live-usb with unetbootin, got this error, then I made it with the startup-disk creator and it fixed the problem. I...

    [all variants] Re: Editing Grub2 Config

    The grub.cfg file is regenerated every time you (or the system) runs update-grub. This happens when you update your kernel. The easiest way would be, I think, to make use of the Grub-Customizer....

    Have you changed your password recently?
    I had a similar problem once, turned out I had only changed the password to my user-account, but my encrypted home-dir still had the old password. Changing...

    [ubuntu] Re: Help cant log in to desktop

    Seems to me that you or something else changed the permissions to your home dir.
    It is indeed a good idea to let us know what you were trying to do, or what you have done before the problem occurred.
