[ubuntu] Re: 5.1 Surround Sound - Need Help

According to this thread, you do find that option under thread tools.

Yet I don't find the "unsubscribe from this thread" entry, even from subscribed threads, so maybe something has changed...

[ubuntu] Re: Can't add shared printer in Windows XP

Thanks for these links. As soon as I reboot under Ubuntu, I'll try to reconfigure Samba following those instructions, and I'll let you know what happens :-)

[ubuntu] Re: Can't add shared printer in Windows XP

    Definitely.

The problem occurs while connecting via Samba to a printer shared by Ubuntu (the opposite works flawlessly, at least for me).

I'm sorry you can't improve your audio quality.

Anyway, you should see the option to mark the thread as solved under the "thread tools" menu, at the top of the page.

[ubuntu] Re: 5.1 Surround Sound - Need Help

I assume you're using the latest stable version of Ubuntu, which is 8.10 (also referred to as Intrepid Ibex or just Intrepid).

Take a look at this thread and if you solve your problems, mark this...

[ubuntu] Re: Problems mounting. Please help!

I'm not an expert on this aspect, but it could just be something related to your fstab.

This file contains information about where the devices (hard drives, optical units, and so on) have to be...
  13. [all variants] Re: Kernal 2.6.24-23 installed but not showing up in boot menu

I use only Gnome, and I remember the menu.lst got updated automatically via synaptic.

I'll wait for the next kernel to see if my problems are solved.
  14. [all variants] Re: Kernal 2.6.24-23 installed but not showing up in boot menu

The question remains: why it's not done automatically? Does anyone have any clues? On my previous Ubuntu installation it worked flawlessly :-(

EDIT: I could have searched the forums better... here...
  15. [all variants] Re: Kernal 2.6.24-23 installed but not showing up in boot menu

I have the same kind of problem: whenever I got a new kernel installed, I have to manually edit the menu.lst in the grub folder.

Still trying to understand why... :-(
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Disable "All Downloads have completed" pop-up

    @blazemore:

I don't get what you mean...

I was just saying that it's not something Ubuntu-specific, but it's a feature offered by Firefox ;-)
  17. [ubuntu] Re: Disable "All Downloads have completed" pop-up

As I understand what you're saying, it's related to Firefox and it's not an Ubuntu aspect.

See here for how to disable this.

[ubuntu] Re: Wireless connection & samba

Well, you can do these things using Wicd (an alternative network manager available from the repos), if I remember properly, but that's not what you asked for.

    I actually don't know if...

  20. [gnome] Re: GUI Archiver that supports creation of split-archives?

Well, I think the "problem" is related to rar compression, since Rar is not a free tool for creating archives (but it's free if you want to decompress them).

You can choose a different archive...

[ubuntu] Re: Printing on Windows network

Well, the answer is yes, both if you want to print to a Windows shared printer, and if you want to print from Windows to a printer shared by Ubuntu.

In the latter case, you have to install Samba...
