    Go 64bit, I did back in 9.04 with my wimpy old laptop. Now I have an I5 and 4GB with 10.10 (today) and it's going strong. I don't think that there is a speed difference unless you doing intense stuff...

    I had not even heard of this issue, mine runs just fine on battery or AC and does not suspend on the transition. Just Updated to 2.6.31-17-generic however, after testing I still get a black screen...

    No need to stop using Ubuntu all together just install 9.04 it suspended and Hibernated just fine. And I would recommend it for all who need this feature for the time being. though It seems sad...
