    [ubuntu] Re: Firefox-bin NOT closing

I have this problem before when using the stock Firefox on my Lucid (not sure what version are you using).

Should be the flash player, cuz I had tried uninstalling it and the problem was gone. ...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Used a command in terminal..how to know it if is working?

The stats will be printed on the terminal window that you executed the dd command.
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Used a command in terminal..how to know it if is working?

Not unless you omit the -USR1 option. ;) You can do a man on dd.
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Used a command in terminal..how to know it if is working?

There is a way to ask dd to print current I/O stats to stderr by sending a USR1 signal to it.

    kill -USR1 pid-of-dd

[ubuntu] Re: Whats going on with my theme!?

Just saying you encounter an error instead of telling what exactly the error message is doesn't give too much information for people here trying to help.

What version of VMware are you using? ...

[ubuntu] Re: Adding Repositories to sources.list

@pstein: for your "other question", the other software listed in Software Center but not found in /etc/apt/sources.list. You can find them under /etc/apt/sources.list.d directory.

  11. [ubuntu] Re: Make OS with updates & programs then transfer to another computer?

You may download the packages and install them offline.

There is a How-to in the following link:
    http://jeffhoogland.blogspot.com/2010/06/howto-installing-ubuntu-packages.html

    Hope this helps.
  12. [ubuntu] Re: .ecryptfs folder as big as my user home folder? How do I change this?

I don't understand exactly what you mean by "the .ecryptfs folder is too big for your needs". It IS your encrypted data since you've chosen to encrypt your entire home, and therefore it MUST be as...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: .ecryptfs folder as big as my user home folder? How do I change this?

Did you select to encrypt your entire $HOME? In such case, /home/.ecryptfs stores the actual encrypted data of your $HOME. And that's why it is as large as your $HOME.
  14. [ubuntu] Re: Having Problems with TOR/Vidalia in Ubuntu Meerkat Maverick

After Vidalia is run successfully, did it fire up a browser automatically? Or were you using your preferred browser?

I took a different approach and didn't go through the installation steps. I...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: the volume "Filesystem root" has only x Mb disk space remaining

Well, you do not have /var or /usr separated, they all go to root (/). So any addition packages you add will take up root. And IMHO, 8 GB is a bit too small for root, unless you don't add any...
  16. [xubuntu] Re: 2 Linux swap partitions and a few Dell Utility partitions

As for the above question, no, you don't need two swap partitions (you only boot into one distro at a time) though it's no harm at all (just taking up your disk space). But you need to get in one of...

[SOLVED] Re: Add second OS (linux) to grub menu

    Have you tried changing:
    linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-21-generic root=/dev/sda7

    to:
    linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-21-generic root=UUID=616aeaad-da42-417a-aaa4-17bdee5c4ec7
  18. [ubuntu] Re: nVidia_current not working with update to 2.6.38-11

Kernel after 2.6.37 needs an update Nvidia module. I used the ubuntu-x-swat PPA.

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
    sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

  22. [ubuntu] Re: [Serious] I fails to access my Windows 7 OS

    Sorry, a little confused.

When you booted to Ubuntu on USB after the GRUB rescue screen, how many partitions did you see? Did you see the Windows partition?

Have you chosen "Use entire disk"...

OMG!Ubuntu...
