I was pleased to see that my Linksys Dial-Band Wireless-N PCI Adapter Model no. WMP600N worked with Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala Linux...
Running "sensors-detect" identified w83627hf, but modprobe wouldn't insert it. Checking dmesg was the key.
For 9.10, I had to add kernel option "acpi_enforce_resources=lax" to /etc/default/grub...
Try deleting the fancontrol PID file displayed in the error.
Appears the the process was killed w/o using the init.d script and the option "stop".

I had to delete the ~/.mozilla/{...}/plugins.dat to get any plugins to function. But after that it was fantastic - you saved me from running SUSE or kludgy VM solutions! Thanks so much.
