After following the instructions in the first post my PC boots, I can log in but I end up with a black screen and the mouse pointer. I can move the pointer but the screen is just black.

Every time my system boots there is a pause, two lines of text appear briefly. Something about "edac sbridge error" then disabling it. After this timeout the boot continues.

OK yea your right, this may sound arrogant but given how cheap entry level graphics cards are it shouldn't be too much of an issue unless your in a very poor part of the world.

Just try the command above and you will pull the correct one from the Ubuntu repo's.
