  1. [ubuntu] Re: Let me resize windows during installation please!!

I've had the same problem on a netbook and solved it by pressing ALT-F7 then using the arrow keys to move the window around the screen until the confirmation buttons show.

    Re: Gnome 3 not working

That's very interesting and helpful, soro. Thanks. It's good to learn new stuff, like the use of the ampersand.

I'd figured out that nvidia-settings and nvidia-configx are part of a package with...

    Re: Gnome 3 not working

Well, I discovered that uninstalling the 'additional driver' and rebooting with the nouveau driver lets me use Gnome 3 again. So that seems (so far!) to be an answer, if not an ideal one.

    Re: Gnome 3 not working

Thanks dino99. I'm actually using a (quite old) Nvidia GeForce 8300GS with driver 295.40. So it sounds like that could be the problem.

Presumably we're waiting for Nvidia to release a driver that...

    Gnome 3 not working

I've just moved from 11.10 to 12.04 beta 2 (64) with a fresh install. Previously I always used Gnome 3 as my desktop environment and I tried to do the same again. But 12.04 won't start in "Gnome" and...

That's what I want to know too!

Actually, I'm not sure you can. May be stuck with them until Ubuntu provides Open Office Org version 3?

  10. [ubuntu] Re: [upgrade] error authenticating some packages

I have the same problem with those Open Office Org files, and assumed it was because I'd upgraded to version 3 from the version 2 installation which comes with Ubuntu 8.10 - and that the files being...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Dell Inspiron 530 (not N series) pre install questions

I think the Inspiron 530N is just an Inspiron 530 which comes with Ubuntu rather than Windows. Caertainly, mine (which came with Ubuntu) says Inspiron 530 on the case but also has a little sticker...

[ubuntu] Re: 8.04 upgrade on Dell Inspiron 530

    From memory:

    - After pressing F2, you enter 'Setup'.
    - At the 'Integrated Peripherals' screen, go to SATA mode and select RAID (rather than the default IDE)
    - Save changes and reboot.

Sorry my suggestions didn't help. All I can say is that I'm running an Inspiron 530N with Ubuntu 8.04.1 and have upgraded the BIOS to version 1.0.15 with no problem - so I don't think there's...

    [ubuntu] Re: No Restart/Shutdown option

Go to System - Administration - Login Window, then choose Local and make sure that "Show Actions Menu" is ticked. If it wasn't, that was the problem. If it was, then it must be something else.
