[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

I haven't checked as intensely as before, but yes, every time I have plugged off the computer as of lately, it has not powered off.

I am using Fedora 17, although I doubt this really makes a...

    [ubuntu] Re: Updating BIOS

In my experience (YMMV), step four need to be done just on a FAT formatted USB drive, not necessarily empty. The BIOS flash utility is smart enough to let you select the file. Also, the computer will...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

I have recently updated to BIOS version 212 and apparently, the shutdowns caused by unplugging the charger have ceased. I have checked about 8 times now, and no shutdown resulted.

    Additionally,...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

May I suggest to write instructions on how to compile just the bluetooth module and install it as a module update?

I have done this on Fedora for bluetooth and the card reader. It's a big...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Well, that would have been too easy!

I had this same problem in the past, and I solved it by adding a swap partition. I see this is not the case.

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Do you have a swap partition? Just checking the (not so) obvious.

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Just for the record: I simply forgot to rebuild the init ramdisk after compiling the new kernel :(

Note to myself: compiling kernels late at night should be seen as a risky business.

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Just for the record, as I don't remember if this has been said here before: the bluetooth radio is on the same card than the WiFi one, but it's connected through an USB interface. So, one can see it...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Just that. I have done it and works like a charm. Before that, everything seems to work, but in fact it doesn't see any device.

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

That's possible, but I am pretty sure the shutdown type is an RC6 one. I have had kernel panics due to ath9k before, and I can say they are different.

On the other hand, Fedora kernels include...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

I am a bit desperate with the RC6 shutdowns. I patched kernel 3.3.0-rc5 with the latest Dodonov patch, and I still get sudden shutdowns (!).

I tried to use the drm_kms_helper.ko, drm.ko and...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

The connector is a standard PCI Express Mini, but the card form factor is smaller than the half-size one. The model is AW-NB086 (WiFi-BT combo) from AzureWave. Here you can see it:...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

I get this with a 3.1.2 kernel on Fedora 16, without loading the card reader module (rts5139). Every kernel after that (up to 3.3.0-rc) draws more power for me.

[ubuntu] Re: Ubunutu and the asus zenbook (UX31)

Judging by the output of iasl, the DSDT tables in BIOS versions 210 and 211 differ only in the version number.

I hope the rest of changes in the BIOS mean business!
