Well, I did not find a solution to it but a workaround.
Now I ran your code and yeah, perfect match. It worked and now I can install ubuntu desktop.
So for later, anyone asking for the solution...

One alternative was to install gnome 3 and then I was able to install Ubuntu desktop.
