    Loving it, thank you

Just popped in to say a huge Thank You to the Ubuntu team. I've just returned having last used it in Hardy days, since when I've been using a mixture of OSX and Arch. First new impressions:...

[other] Identifying and using non-standard keys

    Key bindings for special keys?

I've reverted to Openbox after a while away, having inherited a slow old laptop.
I use it with a plug-in keyboard and stand: "Logitech Alto keyboard"
    This thing...

Re: How to use Openbox in GNOME and by itself.

Well I don't see the picture you paint. I'm not too technical, or elitist. I run Gnome on my reasonably fast desktop but OpenBox on my ancient laptop because Gnome or KDE are just too heavy for it....

Re: Linux distro for REALLY old computer

I'd have to agree with earlier posts: Ubuntu minimal and then if you want a graphical environment go for a 'box (Openbox is my personal choice). This is fun and manageable plus you get all manner of...

HowTo: enable passwordless logins via GDM

Given that this seems to me like a fairly simple and common objective, and seeing as how I have not been able to find a solution till now, I thought I'd make a start on a mini-howto. The below...

Re: How to use Openbox in GNOME and by itself.

Just a quick post to say thank you Stormy Eyes - this is a fantastic HowTo. I followed it, learnt loads about the graphical environment in Linux quickly, and ended up ditching Gnome entirely in the...

Re: New to ubuntu and tired of it already!

    Tee-hee. Very droll.

Nilly - I too run Gentoo but only as a secondary desktop, something mad to tinker with. It is insanely stupid in its approach, which is jolly good fun indeed. Interestingly,...

Re: New to ubuntu and tired of it already!

If I understand correctly, you like everything about Ubuntu apart from the not-up-to-date repositories.
If this is correct, then I have a suggestion and a comment:

    Suggestion: Try adding...

I am coming towards the end of a contract as IT Manager for a reasonably
affluent not-for-profit organisation, the British Small Animal
Veterinary Association. Part of my remit is to develop an IT...

    positive socio-religious engineering!

I'm relatively new to Ubuntu, so please pardon me if the views I express here are old and worn:

I came to Ubuntu for technical reasons, and have been very impressed on that level. It is my main...
