  4. USB Skype phone not working after upgrade to 14.04

I have done a clean install of 14.04 and Skype.

I have tried for some hours to get Skype to recognise my USB VOIP Phone's microphone, without success.
    Skype options\soundDevices lists "PulseAudio...
  5. [SOLVED] Re: Upgrade to Lubuntu 14.04 breaks J-Pilot

    Got it working.

The requirements listed on the J-Pilot website specify that pilot-link is installed. Unfortunately, http://www.pilot-link.org/ no longer exists. I managed to track down a copy on...
  6. [SOLVED] Upgrade to Lubuntu 14.04 breaks J-Pilot

I have upgraded to Lubuntu 14.04 and cannot get J-Pilot to sync with my PDA.

This was working fine in my previous Ubuntu 10.04 system, but it seems that I also need the pilot-link package which is...
  7. Re: "error: no such device : " and the grub rescue prompt.

I thought I'd almost cracked it: I had Evolution and J-Pilot re-installed, almost ready to sync with my Palm PDA...

Except now I cant get J-Pilot to talk to my PDA because the "PalmOS Devices"...
  8. Re: "error: no such device : " and the grub rescue prompt.

    I should've been more specific - I'm trying to install 14.04 LTS.

Yes, I downloaded Boot-Repair, burned that onto a pendrive and rebooted to sort that little problem out.
    If I wasn't an engineer...
  9. "error: no such device : " and the grub rescue prompt.

I had a dual-boot system with the 10.04 LTS and WinXP (both now dead).

I ran the installation from a USB pendrive, initially choosing the "preserve my folders, files and installed applications"...
  10. [ubuntu] Some backed up folders are (not) empty

I am trying to back up my Home folder before upgrading to a new hard drive. I used Grsync to copy my home folder to the new drive in my USB SATA dock.

The folder and sub-folders all appear to...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: 10.04 kernel update 2.6.32-61 bricks computer

    This exactly.

I tried upgrading to 12.04 which was awful. The final straw was not having local temperature & weather in the desktop clock, so I reinstalled 10.04.
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 hanging after Firefox upgrade(?)

    i hope so.
  13. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 hanging after Firefox upgrade(?)

If you get a boot menu at startup, go back to the previous version - works fine.

  18. [ubuntu] Re: Upgrade to 12.04 has totally screwed up my PC

  19. [ubuntu] Re: 12.04 upgrade crashed; any reliable systems???

I've been using 10.04 LTS since it was released and found it to be rock solid.

In stark contrast, 12.04 is bug-ridden rubbish - completely screwed up my system. I've had to do a clean reinstall of...
  20. [ubuntu] Re: Upgrade to 12.04 has totally screwed up my PC

I tried the apt-get commands from the root terminal.
    No joy I'm afraid.

I will try saving my files and reinstalling 10.04 LTS from my USB stick tomorrow. I'm falling asleep now.

    I have Is...
  21. [ubuntu] Re: Upgrade to 12.04 has totally screwed up my PC

    Yeah.
I think Dell need to think very carefully before bundling this rubbish with their new machines.
  22. [ubuntu] Re: Upgrade to 12.04 has totally screwed up my PC

I had to boot windoze to check the ID of my graphics card = ATI radeon HD5970.

  23. [ubuntu] Re: Upgrade to 12.04 has totally screwed up my PC

It opens a terminal window, but this is completely blank - no prompt or cursor or anything.

I checked 'Hardware Drivers' which said...
  24. [ubuntu] Upgrade to 12.04 has totally screwed up my PC

I had been running 10.04 LTS very happily.
I seem to remember seeing a pop-up some weeks back (in Update Manager I think) telling me that 10.04 LTS was now obsolete, unsupported and that 12.04 LTS...
