  1. [ubuntu] Re: Failed update of Ubuntu 10.10 results in unbootable system

    Same problem here.

Can't boot into system (no updates made).
When I use a Live-CD and try to mount my HD I get the dBus-error.
If I force mount the filesystem the disk is empty.
    WTF?

    I can't...

    [ubuntu] USB-stick unmounts

I've had this problem since 9.10 and now in 10.04.
Whenever I copy files from a USB-stick (formated FAT32 or NTFS) it auto unmounts in the middle of file transfers.

    I ran
    dmesg and got this:

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) Random Freeze / Hang-up

Tried it, but alas, it didn't work.
So far I've tested the following:

    - No Nvidia driver
    - No Compiz
    - Update Kernel to 2.6.34
    - Downgrade Kernel to 2.6.31.13
    - Uninstall Ubuntu One

  5. [ubuntu] Suggestion: Weekly poll to Ubuntu dev team

Wouldn't it be a great idea to have a weekly poll with known bugs (the most common bugs posted on the forum)?
Users vote on the bug that is affecting their Ubuntu installation. And then when the...

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) Random Freeze / Hang-up

I find it incredible that Canonical or anyone else isn't taking this seriously (this post is number 890 on the topic!).
I've had the freeze problem since I first upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 in May....

  8. [ubuntu] Re: Growing tired of Linux/Ubuntu's lack of hardware support

I'm not actually asking anyone on the forum to write me a driver, I just wanted to send a heads up. I guess this was not the right place to do it, but I couldn't think of anywhere else.
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Growing tired of Linux/Ubuntu's lack of hardware support

I understand that very new or legacy hardware is hard to get driver support for, but none of the above mentioned are that old or new. And what is most ironic, they all work flawlessly in Vista. Now,...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Growing tired of Linux/Ubuntu's lack of hardware support

I am not demanding any single user to do anything. I am simply saying that if a OS has bad support for hardware it has a very slim chance of survival outside the "hardcore" community. Don't get me...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Growing tired of Linux/Ubuntu's lack of hardware support

I have emailed various hardware manufaturers several times, but the reply is always the same: "no plans for linux drivers". I can't see any change unless we all come together on this. And I think it...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Growing tired of Linux/Ubuntu's lack of hardware support

Thank you I will try that.
Unfortunatley I like Picasa better :(
  13. [ubuntu] Growing tired of Linux/Ubuntu's lack of hardware support

I know that the poor hardware support many linux users are experiencing are due to the fact that most hardware vendors doesn't give a hoot about linux and therefore does not supply any drivers.
    I,...

    Solved it.

    Here's how I did it.
  17. [ubuntu] Re: Netbook with ubuntu, apache server, mysql and so on

So I finally got the screen res working.

I chose "CN700+VT8237S/VT8237R PLUS" and the "Unified 2D driver Ver85a-43862(04Nov08) (593.3K)" at the driver dl page at VIA.

    Then I used these...

  19. [ubuntu] Re: easy compiz - v8.10 hp 2133 mini note chrome9 via chrome

    Ok. Sorry to hear that.

I'm not sure about my modell number.

    Could this be it?
    FU345EA#AK8

I says on the HP-page (in Swedish) that this modell uses the following chips:

  20. [ubuntu] Re: easy compiz - v8.10 hp 2133 mini note chrome9 via chrome

Could you please post a version that supports 1024x600?

I'm having difficulties setting up the VIA-driver (and Vesa) on my 8.10.
  21. [ubuntu] Re: Netbook with ubuntu, apache server, mysql and so on

My experience so far has been both a good and bad one.

The HP 2133 has a very nice keyboard and I like the screen, it's nice to have a big HD (which is fairly quiet), it looks really slick. The...

  23. [ubuntu] Re: Netbook with ubuntu, apache server, mysql and so on

So I got the Hp 2133, but I'm having problems installing Ubuntu from a USB stick.

I tried PartedMagic, but that didn't work as I couldn't set the screen resolution so I tried Gparted Live Usb.

  24. [ubuntu] Re: Netbook with ubuntu, apache server, mysql and so on

In the end, I decided to buy a HP 2133 since I got a good deal and paid about 300! (about 370$)
I've seen prices as high as 610$... today I looked at the prices in the same store and it was almost...
