  1. Re: fglrx tracking (updated with every breakage!)

The version on this driver is 8.881. The driver installer now creates good packages for Oneiric, so you don't have to worry about modifying its scripts.

And nope... looks like the Unity issue is...
  2. Re: fglrx tracking (updated with every breakage!)

Actually, looks like they've fixed the packaging scripts in 11.8! Building debs and installing should work fine... Testing now!

[edit]Well, install went fine, but still experiencing the black box...
  3. Re: Oneiric design flaws from an OS X perspective

I kind of disagree with this, using the "address bar in the tabs" argument. That toolbar is something that modifies your view on the right. The view on the left affects it, and it does not affect...

Without the black box bug? Did you do anything special, or are you just lucky? :P

    Re: fglrx

? Do you have Unity 3D working with fglrx? What are you referencing here?
  6. Re: fglrx tracking (updated with every breakage!)

Hooray! I'm going to assume that a repacking of the same driver won't fix the black box issue. Also, I noticed AMD has released an OpenGL 4.2 preview driver at...
  7. Re: fglrx tracking (updated with every breakage!)

    Ron,
Can you add tista's PPA and try upgrading your fglrx packages to his versions? His scripts should be able to fix your system... hopefully!
  8. Re: fglrx tracking (updated with every breakage!)

    @tista
[edit] http://paste.ubuntu.com/662782/ should be a good modified version. Only two lines need changing ;) (I added an import up top!) Tested with a query on amd64. It should work fine on...
  9. Re: fglrx tracking (updated with every breakage!)

Ron, that's exactly the output you get if fglrx isn't installed correctly ;) Did you run the update-alternatives line and then sudo ldconfig? If not, Xorg is trying to use fglrx, but OpenGL can't...
  10. Re: fglrx tracking (updated with every breakage!)

Yup... that's the current state of things :/ Use Unity 2D as ratcheer suggested. Also, can you add a "me too" to Bug #819144? It's already high priority, but having more reports couldn't hurt :)
  11. Re: fglrx tracking (updated with every breakage!)

I'm not sure, then :/ I don't know if Natty organizes the alternatives the same way Oneiric does, and I don't have a Natty install handy to test out.

You might need the apt-get --reinstall line...
  12. Re: fglrx tracking (updated with every breakage!)

If that's showing that there are no alternatives for x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf, then you should be alright, as fglrx installs an alternative for gl_conf which will take over and should work. sudo...
  13. Re: fglrx tracking (updated with every breakage!)

Are you running 64-bit Ubuntu? You might be fine as is, but I can't be certain. I guessed on the --slave part based on mesa, so I'm not entirely sure it's necessary. Well... breaking your OS is...
  14. Re: fglrx tracking (updated with every breakage!)

Wow! That's not good. Did you try installing 11.7 over the installation from the repository? Try the following commands to fix it:

    sudo apt-get purge fglrx*
    sudo update-alternatives...
  15. Re: fglrx tracking (updated with every breakage!)

After playing around with it a bunch, I finally got back to working radeon drivers! Yay! For any reference, I think this did it:

    sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx...
  16. Re: fglrx tracking (updated with every breakage!)

I ran into the same problem with my Radeon HD Mobility 3650. Part of the reason I chose to downgrade to the driver in the repo. Turning the debug flag on, it seemed like it was looking for a...
  17. Re: fglrx tracking (updated with every breakage!)

Hmmm... seems I have some trouble using Unity with fglrx. Downloaded 11.7, made packages and installed, but Unity is falling back to Unity 2D. /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test tells me that only "GL...

    Re: unity-greeter theme for lightdm

What do you mean? Have you run the greeter in test mode? You'll notice that each user is given their own background image when you scroll to their name.

    Re: unity-greeter theme for lightdm

Looks like per-user background images are currently hard-coded into unity-greeter. For non-test-mode, these are hard-coded to null, so right now, there's no way to configure the per-user backgrounds.

That should go in the [seat-0] section of /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

Re: empathy - Offline on startup

I was able to remedy this by putting:
empathy -h as a startup application. Empathy starts and logs in when I log in, and it automatically hides itself, so there's no visual feedback.
  22. Re: too fast fan speed, and no ATI temp detected

Are you using the proprietary ATI driver (fglrx)? The open-source ATI video driver doesn't have support for power saving on the graphics card, so the fan will run full-speed all the time...
  23. Re: dpkg: error processing apt (--configure):

Don't know if it will do anything, but try doing the following:

    sudo apt-get clean
    sudo apt-get -f install

The problem is that the "apt" update you downloaded seems to have a post-install...
  24. Re: No X after installing ATI restricted driver

What version of the driver do you have installed? Did you run sudo aticonfig --initial after installing the driver? Have you used fglrx without problems in a previous version of Ubuntu?

    [SOLVED] Re: extremely slow boot

Just browsed over this thread, and wanted to first note that I also upgraded to Lucid from Karmic, and have had no problems.

Having said that, from what I know about the boot process, etc... It...
