You misunderstand. I can get the system to work fine, by using nomodeset. Then when I get into the OS I can install both the OS and the graphics drivers. The issue is that it's a simple issue to...
GTS 360M
GTX 580
Neither of these cards (and perhaps others) can even boot the OS and instead leave you sitting at a screen filled with corrupted graphics. This issue has been around since 10.10...
And thank you! Now that the communication issues were cleared up we (actually you) found a solution to the issue. :D
I apologize if I came off as rude. That wasn't my intention. I simply meant that I had looked into the solution you provided (for couple hours) and it was much more difficult for me to understand...
Did you notice that the post you linked was by me? I got it working by doing what I explained, using roots crontab, which is a no no. Even the bit you quoted from my post states that it is not only...
I appreciate your reply. However, I mentioned quite clearly that I was unable to find information on my own with ample searching. The root of my problem is not only getting zenity itself to work,...
Actually, the other is cut and paste with minor easily understandable changes. While what you mention is much less friendly on those not in the know. The 3 lines of code you allude to, yet fail to...

I have Grub 2 and need to remove an OS from the list. I currently have Ubuntu 8.10 and 9.10 along with WinXP installed. I want to leave Ubuntu 8.10 installed but remove it from the Grub 2 menu. ...
I am using Ubuntu 9.10. When I type, "grub --version" it gives the error:
The program 'grub' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install grub
And, I did read...
I primarily need to remove several listings from my boot menu. After many updates and upgrades the list is HUGE. I know you can edit the grub menu.lst file, but I don't have one...

Thanks, I managed to get it working that way. Took some doing.
EDITING FOR CLARITY: I can get Zenity to run in roots crontab, the issue is getting any command to run in the /etc/crontab file that is used run to system-wide cron jobs.
I need to make a whole...
Daily bump.
First, this system is a public access desktop system in a hotel lobby. I need to make a very specific set of jobs and have them run system wide at specific times, no matter the user account. So I...
I administer a public computer that runs Ubuntu 8.04. Often people will simply pull out their USB drive without dismounting it and the icon remains on the desktop. The only way I have been able to...
You are very helpfull! Thanks so much for the guide!
All that does is disable the "right-click" save as or save option. It is still possible to write to the user home directory. What you can do is change the permissions of the users home directory to...
Wow, I am truly and completely shocked at how helpful, informative, and civil these responses are! Thanks to everyone on your helpful and eye opening opinions! I will defiantly be giving VIM a more...
Care to elaborate?
