Please provide the version of Ubuntu you are using to allow others to help you. Just from what you provided, Ubuntu uses deb files, not RPM which is for Red Hat and other derivatives. It seems you...
If I understand your problem, you have the Brother printer that is connected to the network but your wife can only access it through your computer when it is turned on? It sounds like you are sharing...
The only suggestion I can offer is to go through the process of installing drivers again using the command line following the instructions on the Brother site. When you download the drivers, the site...
Are you setting this up as a network printer or is it attached to your computer? Sometimes Brother printers/scanners can be finicky and require using the terminal to set them up.
First of all, what version of Ubuntu are you using? Is the MFC-7860DW to be a network or attached printer?
Settings for address can be changed at usr/local/brother/sane and open brsanenetdevice3.cfg. Just change the address and save the file, should be able to scan without issue.
Thanks gdhdh! It worked for my pixel after a lot of head scratching.
After you ran sensors-detect, did it list modules that need to be loaded? If so, did you answer yes to all of the yes/no questions?
I think that would be fine and should not hurt the Brother installation. Glad you resolved the scanner issue.
For me, using Ubuntu 14.04, the settings location is usr/local/brother/sane and the file is brsanenetdevice4.cfg, if it is the same for you, just change the address to be as for your printer.
Try this in the terminal: brsaneconfig4 -q to see if you have the correct ip address listed for the scanner.
What version of Ubuntu are you using? Do you have Synaptic Package Manager installed? If so, open it up and look for Kexi. If not installed, do so as it is available.
Have you tried this link for the Kexi Project? http://www.kexi-project.org/
They do have releases for Ubuntu.
Do you have Synaptic Package Manager installed? If so, choose custom filters and click on broken to see all that is wrong and then go to edit and choose Fix Broken Packages.
Lila,
The line should have been:
brsanconfig4 a name=SCANNER model=DCP-J562DW ip=xx.xx.xx.xx
Lila,
Please try the configuration as outlined in the above listing by pdc. Hoping this will fix the issues you are having.
In my experience, using the terminal and command line to install Brother...
Lila,
Unfortunately, there is really know easy way to find the printer IP address of your printer. Try following the advice in the above post. If the info is not forthcoming, you can install...
lila,
If your printer is connected by wifi, it is a networked printer. The real issue with the scanner is that you need to do the manual install using the command line in the terminal to indicate...
I am going to assume this is a printer you have set up for a network? This is from the Brother site and you need to add manually with the terminal.
The issue you are having is that you need to tell...
If you need and earlier version of 14.04 instead of 14.04.5, you can find it here:http://releases.ubuntu.com/14.04/
14.04.5 is using the Xenial kernel and X stack. The earlier release does not.
I agree with speartip. Not always the suggested way of doing it but moving the folder does work. I also have not had any issues in doing so. The folder is the one with the .default extension, usually...
Again, to update your Kernel to the latest for Trusty 14.04, you have to activate the LTS Enablement Stack. It will provide the newer kernel derived from 16.04. The process is rather simple and is...
You have to enable the LTS Stack to get the updated kernel. I am running Trusty (14.04) and have the 4.4.0-47 kernel.
This guide explains it much better than I will be able to. ...
Check in usr/local/samsung/sane and see if your ip address for the printer/scanner is correct.
