  2. Re: Bash script to auto-download wallpapers without RSS

Thanks for the clarification, sisco311. That explains why I was getting null values after adding -nonumbers to the lynx command. Here's what I'm using to set my background to the Experimental...
  3. Re: Bash script to auto-download wallpapers without RSS

I understand this is attempting to put the results of the lynx and tail commands into the variable baseurl, but I'm not experienced with the context of read -r _

[xubuntu] Re: Internet Connection - none

Similar problems with Xubuntu 12.04 fresh install here. I think networking worked during the installation, but after rebooting eth0 doesn't respond:

    # ifup eth0
    error:...
  5. [all variants] Re: Bluetooth support for MacBookPro6,2 (and maybe other 2010 models)

On a 6,2 from mid 2010 I'm running Precise Pangolin very smoothly. It even enabled multi-touch on my trackpad. Haven't tested bluetooth yet though. Try a live CD and see if it works for you.
  6. [ubuntu] Re: brightness control doesn't work. Why does documentation say it does?

I threw it all to the wind and installed a nightly build of 12.04. Seems to be working there! :)

Re: Installing Request Tracker via repositories

I'm using 10.04 LTS (desktop) and just re-ran the dpkg-reconfigure steps. I guess I don't really understand why it has to be done twice since I didn't deviate from the standard installation. The...

    Installing Request Tracker via repositories

Request Tracker by BestPractical.com is in the repositories, but after running through the installation dialogs it isn't live (127.0.0.1/rt returns 404.)

There are wikis and forum threads on how...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Can't load windows 7 upon choosing from grub menu(ubuntu 11.10)

Just borrow one from a friend. Make sure it's the same version as yours: "Home Premium" or whatever. Disconnect the drive with Ubuntu and get your Windows system operational again. Nobody should be...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Can I start PhotoRec from a specific sector of my choice?

I don't understand the question. Have you gotten the version Nick mentioned (6.13)? Did you run it, and if so what result did you get?

By 'I don't know how to script that tool', do you mean you...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: Can I start PhotoRec from a specific sector of my choice?

Hi Nick. I grabbed version 6.13 and it was able to complete the whole drive without segfaulting! Much thanks!!!

Larry, running from a live CD you won't be able to save or edit the session file.

  12. [ubuntu] Re: Can I start PhotoRec from a specific sector of my choice?

thanks Nick. I'm working on one now that had a segfault half way through a 500 GB drive. My .ses file is just 40 K of:

I may install the beta PhotoRec manually but am still a little confused...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: brightness control doesn't work. Why does documentation say it does?

Ironically the backlight for the screen now works, but the backlight to the keyboard does not. I did an in-place upgrade (not sure why I bothered - it has NEVER been successful in ten years of Linux...
  14. [kubuntu] Re: Permission denied - Trying to access an ntfs drive

Sorry to resurrect this ancient thread but I'm stumped by reading an NTFS drive with some archived Windows files on it. My system is a fully updated Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS.

    The goal of my efforts...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: brightness control doesn't work. Why does documentation say it does?

Found a permanent solution: upgraded to 11.10 beta.

[SOLVED] Re: Shotwell - Change date stamp?

Video editing is such an unfriendly task. The open-source video tools are about a decade behind in usability and features, and I can't edit a M4V file from my Android phone in iMovie on a Mac without...

  24. [ubuntu] Natty Narwhal on Intel CPU-based Macintosh Computers

This might be early, but as some are already testing alpha versions of Natty, there is now a section for it on the mactel Introduction page.

I've added a page for the 6,2 MacBook Pro.
