I'm presently using Fedora 20 because all I want is a clean, GNOME 3 setup with nothing else. I have no real complaints with Fedora except for a few minor annoyances that I've not had running Ubuntu...
Usually system-wide changes to the desktop environment require at least a logout at minimum, occasionally a reboot.
It has occurred for me on my 64-bit 11.10 setup, as well. I believe it's a known glitch, but I'm not sure what fix (if any) exists.
However, I have just recently upgraded to the latest unstable...
I'm using a ThinkPad T420, and 11.10 is working virtually perfectly! As mentioned on the wiki, the only issue that I've found is if I mute the system volume, the appropriate orange LED does not light...
If I log into the Ubuntu 2D desktop rather than the Compiz-enabled one, I've found what seems to be an odd bug: making any window fullscreen will simply not draw the title bar widgets...
I'd like to add that it only seems to occur on my virtual machine. I just got 11.10 installed natively onto my ThinkPad, and the menu bar here seems fine.
Ah, glad I didn't do anything, then. I guess I'll use GParted or some other in-OS tool to make another partition, then.
Thanks for the info.
I'm presently installing Ubuntu onto my ThinkPad without a swap partition. Will I be able to add one later, and if so, how?
The reason I didn't add one now was because I'm attempting a dual-boot...
Hi,
I'm using GNOME 3 on Ubuntu 11.10, and there is a empty space on my top menu bar that I can't seem to get rid of:

I just use Safari 4 on all my Macintosh computers, IE8 on all my Windows computers and Firefox 3 on all my Linux computers.
I guess you'd prefer he kept all his money to himself? He's giving his money away because he is genuinely trying to make a difference, not because he feels guilty about how he obtained his wealth.

Why not pay attention in class instead of sleeping and/or text messaging?
You can very easily change most of your system icons, including the Dock, with Candybar 3. And when Facade is finally made available, you will be able to easily theme the entire computer, including...

I agree it's time for a change, but not like this. It's not bad, but it's not good, either. The orange and brown of yesterday gave way to the orange and very dark brown of tomorrow. And I don't like...
I think I've posted earlier, but just an update... I now use primarily a 32 GB iPod touch, although I do have a few playlists on my 8 GB iPhone. I also have an 8 GB iPod nano, although I got this...
Both the MacBook and MacBook Pro allow for easy access to RAM, so you can add more. The MacBook also allows for easy access to the hard drive so that you can replace it or add a larger capacity...
Both are really good, try them both out and pick the one you like. I personally prefer the MacBook Pro for a number of reasons, but my dad used to have a Thinkpad and it was both compact and yet very...
Exactly. It's their computer, they decide what they will and will not use. You have no business changing their computer habits, and if some moronic Firefox zealot tried to force me to download the...
I think there was an RC3 release today, but it might have only been for Mac OS X users. Anyway, looking forward to the final release. Been using Firefox 3 full-time since Beta 5, and it's proven...
Who cares if Vista's market share is increasing? It's bound to happen, what's the big deal? Does it somehow make Linux work any less, does it suddenly invalidate every copy of Ubuntu? No, it doesn't....
After using both for a while, I think I'd rather stick with GNOME. XFCE is pretty and functional, but I just didn't like certain things about it.
Mac OS X has a few Finder replacements, such as ForkLift and Path Finder.
Anyway, no, file managers are not dead, and never will be. Even with iPhoto, Spotlight, etc, you will still want a file...
