Re: AVerMedia DarkCrystal HD Capture Pro

Yes, free to air is all terrestrial, Foxtel is all Satellite. We've had it for years and are simply upgrading to HDTV and HD DVB-S along with it. I've been thinking about the media center for years...

Re: AVerMedia DarkCrystal HD Capture Pro

I've got a lead on a secondhand unit. If it doesn't come good I'll investigate prezoom and other outlets that will ship overseas. It seems that I can order one from Hauppaute direct, for about $60...

Re: AVerMedia DarkCrystal HD Capture Pro

Unfortunately Newegg don't ship OS. Outlets in Australia I tried don't seem to have the 1212, but do have the HD-PVR2. It's unclear whether it just an updated device, or a completely and possibly...

Re: AVerMedia DarkCrystal HD Capture Pro

I've been having a look at the Hauppauge devices. Anything with "PVR" in the model appears to be a personal video recorder. It doesn't appear to have any way of communicating with the PC, however...

    AVerMedia DarkCrystal HD Capture Pro

I'm currently setting up my first media center, but being on a budget it seems like a frame grabber is the way I'll be going. I can't find much specific information, and a lot of the general...

Re: Problem booting Ubuntu on dell 2350

You will be able to dual boot providing you have enough hard drive space to allocate enough for the second operating system plus your data and programs, plus day to day updates etc.

Precise 64 bit and nvidia drivers

All during the precise development cycle I ran 32 bit on my test system with an Nvidia GeForce 6200 graphics card. Apart from the odd Nvidia speed bump it was OK.

I decided to try 64 bit now the...

    Re: HTPC Nvidia screen resolution.

65.00 is definitely wrong: it won't mean anything in that context.

Definitely investigate the correct HorizSync settings as I think it needs to be at least 55kHz to give the resolution you want at...

Yes it should, I've fixed it. Sorry it's been a looong day.

Indeed I did. I wrote that quickly during my lunch break today and didn't have time to proof read.

    Re: HTPC Nvidia screen resolution.

OK, run nvidia settings and save the results (so it generates xorg.conf)

    Next, in a terminal run

    cvt 1140 900

#and it will give a result something like:
    Modeline "1440x900_60.00" 106.50 ...

    Re: HTPC Nvidia screen resolution.

I would still try installing and using nvidia-settings. When you make changes in nvidia x server settings and save, it writes the xorg.conf

    Re: HTPC Nvidia screen resolution.

What resolutions are available? The terminal command

    xrandr
should list all of the available modes.

You could try install nvidia settings and see if that works better for you:

Did you try the -U switch with usermod, or did that give you the "cannot lock" message as well?

Something seems well broken if this is the case.

Did you try making the new admin user account?

I'm not seeing that, but I am getting segfault crash reports for Nautilus and Plymouth (!).

This has been going on for some time now.

  19. [ubuntu] Re: No passwords/Could not update ICEauthorityfile?

Your username does indeed exist, unless you deleted that user. (It's not a good idea to delete your only admin user). Inability to use the existing ICEauthority file is a pretty good indication...

[SOLVED] Re: Wha? 12gb Swap on my SSD install 12.04!?

Agreed. Boot off the LiveCD, then delete the swap partition and resize the ext4 partition. You'd also edit /etc/fstab on the SSD to remove reference to the swap partition.
