Re: Grub 2 Title Tweaks Thread

The new tweak for hiding the menu with multiple OSes worked perfectly for me, thanks. I'm a bit confused though; I had disabled the os-prober script; why was I still seeing the menu, if the problem...

Re: Grub 2 Title Tweaks Thread

I don't want the GRUB menu to display, so I set hidden_timeout to zero, and the line is uncommented. However, I still get the menu every boot without pressing a key. I disabled os-prober, updated,...

    [ubuntu] Re: Grub2 Windows7 64bit - Fails To Boot

I fixed this problem by just installing grub2 into the MBR of the Windows 7 drive, and putting that drive first in the boot order. The Windows drive seemed to then be (hd0), no drivemapping required....

    [all variants] Re: sshd_config

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I can forward fine with other protocols. I checked that config file; TCP forwarding is enabled and there doesn't appear to be any exceptions in there that would affect...

I want to forward SMB from my local Linux box over a SSH tunnel to a Windows XP machine behind a firewall. Everything I try just times out.

Here's the first thing I tried:

Re: best way to install nvidia 190 drivers?

The way I usually do it is to remove the existing drivers, and also any packages starting with "linux-restricted". I then just do a console login, and run the NVIDIA installer, and it works fine.

[ubuntu] Re: How to Print from terminal

Here's the command that works for me:

    lpr -P MFC5460CN -o Resolution=Normal -o PageSize=A4

MFC5460CN is the name of my network printer, which I added through CUPS.

    Re: VirtualBox Seamless Windows

If I could tweak KDE so that its windows never cover the top ~150 pixels of the screen, I could place the windows taskbar up there and it would always be visible. Is it possible to tell KDE that it...

    Re: VirtualBox Seamless Windows

Is there any way to have both the KDE and Windows taskbars displayed permanently? Whenever I activate a KDE app, the Windows taskbar disappears.

    Re: 32-Bit Chroot How-To

Okay, without using "sudo mount -a" I did this:

    1. Remove the fstab line binding /mnt/pan64home to /chroot/mnt/pan64home
    2. sudo umount /mnt/pan64home;sudo umount /chroot/mnt/pan64home
    3. mount...

    Re: 32-Bit Chroot How-To

No, all the mounting has to be done from outside the chroot. Use the instructions I posted above, doing everything from fstab. Then outside the chroot do "sudo mount -a" to mount everything. Inside...

    Re: 32-Bit Chroot How-To

    Re: 32-Bit Chroot How-To

    I'd try:

    1. Add to fstab:

    2. Get into the chroot
    3. Add the mount point /mnt/pan64home

Because the chroot doesn't know about anything outside unless you tell it.

    Re: 32-Bit Chroot How-To

    Re: 32-Bit Chroot How-To

I can't get past this point:

It just sits there not doing anything. What can I do to fix this?

EDIT: Never mind, it finally worked. Now I have to work out what to do with this chroot.
