My main christmas present came early. It was a new laptop, HP dv5t and i love it.
Christmas day i got a 320 external HDD, a carrying case for my laptop, adn a promise that i would get an iPod...
This is very unsettling. Especially after reading a thread not too long ago on here about a hardware key-logger that a lot of computers have now. What is this world coming too? How did this get...
I am in the process of setting up a guest account for friends that want to get on my laptop to check email etc. But i am having trouble with one part.
My friends like to IM so i was going to set...
Now take this with a grain of salt, the first Linux distro i stuck with was Gutsy. (I have tried Knoppix and Mandriva a few years ago but they weren't nearly as polished as things are now.)
When i...
Happy dual core user on a Core 2 Duo.
Last processor i had was a P4 on a desktop (yuk). Core 2 Duos are pretty mean in laptops. :)
Yes, that is the guide i used. Everything was set up, and it didn't carry over after rebooting. Even after running through the process it didn't work because no matter which scaler i chose, something...
I thinnk that if Linux/FOSS is going to be advertised, it needs to start small at first. We should first try to target users that are willing or know how to get help from places like the ubuntu...
There are other options in my BIOS about my CPU but none really for limiting the the CPU frequency or nanything like that.
Yes i made sure that the frequency was set on both cores and i don't really know how to check if a process is causing a change in my scaler and yes i recently updates my BIOS.
When i run the...
No, it just gives me an option to close the window and it still asks me to perform a partial upgrade.
Tried a different server. Still no good.
Ok im going to check out logrotate like you suggested. But is it ok to delete the log files?
Oh and i tried doing
tail -n30 /var/log/syslog
instead because the first command you asked about...
cat /var/log/syslog.0 | tail -n 40
Didn't work, it just sat there blank.
Although
tail -n30 /var/log/syslog
Resulted in this:

I did add a repository for Open Office 3, so i tried what you said. After reinstalling ubuntu-desktop through synaptic, i tried to run update manager and i returned with this message:
I recently noticed that i had a lot less free space on my hard drive recently without adding anything to my hard drive. I ran the disk usage analyzer tool and found out that that the directory...
I am experiencing this problem too. Why is it asking me to do a partial upgrade in Ubuntu? This is the first time i have run into this issue.
I did that and when it finished it gave me an...
Unfortunately, they will be going above your heads to get your ISP to cut off your IP address from the internet if they detect copyright infringement. Not much of an improvement if you ask me.

It does work for linux. They even have a .deb for ubuntu and debian and an .rpm for fedora and others.
Although if you are using 64-bit, you have to mess around with getlibs. They only have a...
If there was a good fl studio equivalent (i already tried rosegarder and lmms, neither are nearly as good as fl studio) i would be completely satisfied.
Although i have been somewhat succesful in...
Amazon.com

Thats where i get my...
I found an entry at launchpad that relates to my problem, but it sticks me at the highest CPU frequency instead.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/138465
Is there a fix for...
Hmm... I seem to be having another related issue. While this command fixes my problem, the scaler keeps reseting itself to 2.53GHz or 1.6GHz automatically every 10 minutes or so.
What causes this?...
Holy @#*$!
That actually worked! My cpu is scaling as it did before i rebooted! I can't even begin to thank you enough! If you were here i would buy you a beer.

Ok thanks for the info. I really don't have any reason to be that paranoid, i just wanted to learn a little bit about that.
