  1. [ubuntu] Re: I don't feel comfortable putting my precious data into an Ubuntu system, because.

Well, I've finally decided to leave Ubuntu and Linux for good. This OS/GUI has too many errors and bugs. It's simply not usable at all to me. I'd say that it's more or less a joke. Even though it's...

Okay, that was a typo from me. :)

Do you (or anyone) know how to launch the Gnome login screen or user switcher from the text-terminal?

    [ubuntu] When using alt+F2

When I push alt+F2 I get to a text console that fills the whole screen. Is it possible to launch or force any type of Gnome login screen from there? Since I need to work around a bug in Ubuntu when...
  4. Re: Howto: Utilise the svn MPlayer to Improve Karmic Koala's 'mplayer-nogui' Package

andrew.46, I see that you recommend Pulse audio, as in ao=pulse, in the mplayer config.

I can see in the SMPlayer's configuration that Alsa is the default. I can also choose Alsa 0.0-0.4 Creative...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: I don't feel comfortable putting my precious data into an Ubuntu system, because.

It seems like I've more or less solved the lagging mouse issue. At least now I can move the mouse around and hit objects without the pointer lagging in a way that it jumps forwards on high CPU load....
  6. [ubuntu] Re: I don't feel comfortable putting my precious data into an Ubuntu system, because.

Definitely not here! But I guess we all use our computers differently, and most importantly have different hardware and drivers. I think the Linux core/kernel is solid as a black hole, but Gnome and...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: I don't feel comfortable putting my precious data into an Ubuntu system, because.

Well, Ubuntu/Linux has for sure tested my patience during this half year period of testing and exploring. Both KDE and Gnome seem to suffer from some really irritating bugs here and there; at least I...

  9. [ubuntu] Re: I don't feel comfortable putting my precious data into an Ubuntu system, because.

LOL! It's just of a metaphor to Microsoft's expensive software. ;)
  10. [ubuntu] Re: I don't feel comfortable putting my precious data into an Ubuntu system, because.

After I installed 9.10 64-bit, my boot logo graphics is not corrupted anymore.

The sound issue is only related to the boot-up and login, and I managed to get the sound working at other accounts...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: I don't feel comfortable putting my precious data into an Ubuntu system, because.

    Thanks for you feedback!

Asus mobo with Creatve X-Fi audio and Nvidia 8800 GTS 312M video. Audio works right after install, but my problem is only present on Ubuntu, not Kubuntu. Running my video...
  12. [ubuntu] I don't feel comfortable putting my precious data into an Ubuntu system, because...

The thing is that I'm struggling with stability issues that I have on Ubuntu.

Here are the most apparent ones:

The start-up logo, the one during boot and before the login screen,...
  13. [all variants] Re: Performance impact of full disk encryption?

I'm trying Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit with LUKS full disk encryption.

At first glance, it seems to go pretty well. But when I use TrueCrypt in addition to encrypt second partitions/drives, then something...
  14. [ubuntu] Mouse lags on a high-end system (x64)

Hm! As soon as I set up a new user account and log into that account in parallel, I notice that my mouse pointer starts to lag a bit and gets inconsistent. I can't remember that this has ever...

    Strange!
  16. Re: Howto: Utilise the svn MPlayer to Improve Karmic Koala's 'mplayer-nogui' Package

I just discovered that SMPlayer has been removed from Wikipedia.

I don't hope they're pulling the plug on this GUI project?

  18. [ubuntu] Re: Can't make a clean 9.10 install with the amd64 alternate-CD

    Hi again,

Today I tried to install with a new DVD-R disk, and finally it worked! :)

I'm not 100% sure what went wrong, but I think this is an issue related to the CD-R disks that I used.
    If...
  19. [ubuntu] Re: Can't make a clean 9.10 install with the amd64 alternate-CD
