Booting in recovery mode results in the exact same blank screen that booting normally does. It's really horrific. As far as a I can tell, it's the Intel IGP that's the factor with the blank screen...
Which video chip are you using? I have an intel IGP and there was no way to recover.

That's a very confusing xorg.conf. There are two entries for everything.
Try this xorg.conf to get you to a good starting point.
