    Believe it or not, but alot of older computers can't boot cd's. Windows 95/98 computers required you to create a boot floppy, which loaded cd-rom drivers. So you could boot the install disk.

    No MSSQL can only be installed on a windows host. Your best bet is to run windows server in VMWare or VirtualBox on youre machine for you development needs.
