[ubuntu] Re: XAMPP: Couldn't start MySQL

The problem with MySQL issues in XAMPP is that by default there is no error logging in MySQL.
So if you are having problems getting MySQL to run, add the following line to /opt/lampp/etc/my.cnf...

Re: Changes to Panels Revert After Reboot.

General > Save session on logout, or Session > Save Session has no effect on this.
However the tip to watch the files is a good one. I had assumed that they only got updated on shutdown, so had been...

Changes to Panels Revert After Reboot.

This is an Xubuntu 12.04 desktop PC with encrypted Home and Swap folders.
Adding or changing order of launchers in a panel reverts to the previous setting after a reboot, but not after a panel...

[all variants] Re: Ubuntu Server - Garbled Terminal Fonts

I think a reinstall on the new hardware might be the appropriate way forward here, just in case something else has been corrupted.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

[all variants] Re: Ubuntu Server - Garbled Terminal Fonts

Ah thanks - doing that shows same patterns of text, but with garbled fonts on each TTY channel.

    Further experimentation shows:
    - hit E during Grub menu and then F10 (nothing edited) and terminal...

[all variants] Re: Ubuntu Server - Garbled Terminal Fonts

Switch TTYs? - I'm not familiar with that concept.

Have reinstalled Grub - no change. "nomodeset" may be a red herring - terminal fonts are normal if restarting after any "live" edit of the Grub...

[ubuntu] Re: how to install epson scanner in ubuntu 10.04 ?

I find that the appropriate scanner utility from avasys and the associated plug-in work fine here with a V350 scanner (dig down from the URL above to get the appropriate installation .debs). Though I...
  17. Re: What software is used to create a web page or edit a template?

    And the...
  18. [ubuntu] Re: Looking for a PDF editor that can erase metadata

Have you tried the Ubuntu "cups to PDF" printer that I mentioned in my previous post - it probably does exactly what you want? I said "most" as it adds a document title to the metadata, but it's not...
  19. [ubuntu] Re: Looking for a PDF editor that can erase metadata

Possibly the simplest thing to do is to print your PDF file using "Print to PDF". That should retain the content but create a new PDF file with a mainly blank set of metadata.

    If you haven't yet...
