  1. Re: Internet works only with root permission to browser!

    okay, do chmod 4751 /bin/ping.
After you do that, try to run ping without sudo, and tell me if you still have the same problem.
  2. Re: Internet works only with root permission to browser!

wait a second actually on second thought, do this in your terminal:

ls -l | grep "ping", and display your output please.
  3. Re: Internet works only with root permission to browser!

Well that makes sense, because if I go to the /bin directory where ping is located, the ownership is by default, root.
  4. Re: The benefits of typecasting over static declaration

Actually your grammar is fine. And other's is correct. I will admit this; you are right. Goodbye troll.
  5. Re: The benefits of typecasting over static declaration

Haha, and then some "self-proclaimed English expert" comes out, quotes it and says "But I won't [;"

    etc., etc.
  6. Re: The benefits of typecasting over static declaration

    lol, it's okay, because:

Others' = plural possessive referring to something belonging to more than one person

But I'll resist the urge to comb through the previous parts of the thread.
  7. Re: The benefits of typecasting over static declaration

Exactly. This is why I hate vocab arguments; if you can understand the guy without difficulty, let it go. Otherwise it will degenerate into a battle of two or more people correcting each others'...
  8. Re: The benefits of typecasting over static declaration

Also, you will notice that it is under a section labelled "Type Conversions." Just use the search function in your viewer.
  9. Re: The benefits of typecasting over static declaration

    http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg14/www/docs/n1570.pdf

Apparently a draft of the C99 standard has exactly one occurrence of 'type cast.' Enough said.
  10. Re: The benefits of typecasting over static declaration

Good, I'm glad Bachstelze speaks for the community. Nonetheless, I never asked for an explanation as to how conversions come about. Conversions can come about via assignment statements. Or they can...
  11. Re: The benefits of typecasting over static declaration

And come on, just because something isn't explicitly stated in your most "trusted source", doesn't mean that you always have to use the word "pre-processor directive." for example.

    If Microsoft is...
  12. Re: The benefits of typecasting over static declaration

And solely just for the sake of extinguishing a potentially unproductive flame-war over semantics, I found documentation of a visual studio 2008 warning message that says:

    warning C4312: 'type...
  13. Re: The benefits of typecasting over static declaration

You don't have to let it slide, but it doesn't mean you're right. http://www.cprogramming.com/tutorial/lesson11.html

Those guys apparently use it.... I don't know what you mean by "The C...
  14. Re: Internet works only with root permission to browser!

Try chown username:username nameofdirectory, or maybe that's too drastic, just do chmod, so it's not completely accessible.

I'm assuming it's an ownership problem?

[ubuntu] Re: Case sensitivity of folder and filenames

Why don't you just generate a directory listing, and output all of the listing to awk to capture field 1. From then on pipe it to xargs and rename every instance of a capital letter to the lowercase...
  16. Re: The benefits of typecasting over static declaration

On a rather amusing side-note, part of the description of typecasting(acting) in Wikipedia says: "Alternatively, a director may choose to cast an actor "against type," i.e., in a role that would be...
  17. Re: The benefits of typecasting over static declaration

Aha I see, so no additional overhead incurred from the original sensible code.

My question was derived from this simple script to automate wget:

    #define LINK "wget...
  18. Re: The benefits of typecasting over static declaration

Okay, so let me try to understand your point, by answering your question (feel free to correct afterwards).

I think that the first example concatenates two temporary strings together, and then...
  19. Re: The benefits of typecasting over static declaration

Minor correction, typecasting is also what happens to actors. Typecasting is also another way of saying "casting."

Anyway, I see your point. So are you trying to tell me that garbage collection...
  20. The benefits of typecasting over static declaration

It has frequently occurred to me that, in terms of memory efficiency, typecasting has benefits over declaration of static spaces.

For example, in this snippet of a script:

Re: Why are SML binaries so large?

Running "strip -gd -o newfile" on my binary produces no tangible gains at all.

This is not a complex program at all, as a matter of fact they are a few test lines. It is not even a real program....

Why are SML binaries so large?

A question for any SML/experienced SML programmers:

Why are SML binaries so huge? 181 kb for simple output file operations? Is this normal? Is there anybody else who programs in SML that notices...

[SOLVED] Python running as a process in Ubuntu?

Hi, I apologize if this is a ridiculous question, but:
