[ubuntu] Re: Can't get 2560x1600 on Nvidia GT610

Operator error! I was using my original DVI cables not the dual-link ones provided. As soon as I used the correct cables it was plug-and-play. I now have a 5120x1600 pixel desktop.

    I have ordered...

[ubuntu] Re: Can't get 2560x1600 on Nvidia GT610

It seems the monitors have a bug in their EDID data which isn't helping matters:

    [ 1679.502] (II) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Display (DWM WQ300PHOTO_II (DFP-1)) does not support NVIDIA 3D
    [ 1679.502] (II)...

[ubuntu] Re: Can't get 2560x1600 on Nvidia GT610

Yes, I went looking to Wikipedia's entry straight after your earlier reply. Both the itx board and the display are new, so I'm hoping they are good for HDMI 1.3, though the cable I have is older so I...

    [ubuntu] Can't get 2560x1600 on Nvidia GT610

I'm using Saucy Salamander (Mint 16 petra) and I'm trying to get a small Nvidia GT610 to drive a new 30 inch 2560x1600 pixel display. The Nvidia configuration tool only offers resolutions up to...
  6. [SOLVED] Re: GTK+ and freetype lib problem with saucy?

I think I have solved the problem. If I force /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu to precede any other library paths then things work OK. I shall have to check for other libfreetype.a or libfreetype.so that may...
  7. [SOLVED] GTK+ and freetype lib problem with saucy?

I recently upgraded to Saucy and code that used to compile and link is broken. From what I have read on the web there is a version incompatibility between the installed freetype lib and the one...
  8. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

Your comment puts me in mind of a New Yorker cartoon by Richard Cline which has the caption: "People shouldn't get married unless they've been married."

  9. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

I've confirmed that Samba was NOT running on artshow24. I tried service smbd restart and got a message that there was no 'instance'. Then I ran service smbd start. The machine is now behaving itself...
  10. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

My interpretation, from your suggestion, is that Samba is NOT running on artshow24.

clive@artshow24:~$ ps -ef | grep mbd
    root 1322 1 0 Aug12 ? 00:00:03 nmbd -D

  11. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

    For tomorrow:

I tried to create a second share on artshow24 but it won't let me. The dialog box asks if Samba is running. I wonder if I should restart smdb on artshow24?
  12. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

Sure. I understand. It's midnight where you are. This is a weird problem...
  13. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

    gvfs-backends is already installed.

The response to caja smb://clive@192.168.2.19 is identical to the previous method.

    Could not display "smb://192.168.2.19/".

  14. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

A dialog box pops up with:

    Could not display "smb://192.168.2.19/".

  16. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

From VostroV13 I ran smbtree -d3 and got:

    Connecting to host=ARTSHOW24
name_resolve_bcast: Attempting broadcast lookup for name...
  17. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

I ran smbtree on artshow24 and got this:

    CLIVEWORKGROUP
    \\VOSTROV13 VostroV13 server (Samba, LinuxMint)
    \\VOSTROV13\HP-LaserJet-1200 HP LaserJet 1200
    ...
  18. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

Actually both. Samba-Avahi-10.10 artshow24 certainly does it. I just tried it again just a second ago.

I just checked the three wireless APs that I have, only one of which is capable of being DHCP...
  19. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

    It's the same.
  20. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

Switched artshow24 to wired but VostroV13 still shows: Failed to retrieve share list from server when browsing artshow24
  21. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

Yes, it is wireless but it has a strong signal (-59dBm) from a nearby AP of mine. I'll switch it to wired just for fun.
  22. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

Correction: Samba-Avahi-10.10 artshow24 is back again!
  23. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

As perhaps you can tell, these machines are artworks each of which functions as a separate 'canvas' -- I use a relatively standardized set of hardware with an Atom CPU and an Nvidia Ion GPU. The...
  24. [SOLVED] Re: the ever present "Failed to retrieve share list from server"

    So those two commands reveal:

    rlimit_max: rlimit_max (1024) below minimum Windows limit (16384)
    Processing...
