  1. Poll: Re: How do Linux preloaded computers figure into your life?

    How about:
I'll build my computer myself, and put whatever OS on it I desire?

Oh wait, tons of people have said something similar before me in this thread. :p
Can't a mod add an option?

    I...

Re: LINUX desktop ready to take off...

I think the year companies like Dell start shipping their low end PC's with Linux and a decent discount compared to Windows, could be a year when the migration goes relatively fast. And if Novell's...
  3. Re: Installation of Xgl in Ubuntu 6.04 (Dapper Drake)

If enough people are interested, I'll make an "improved" version of this script.

There are several things which seem rather strange and unnecessary, and I think QuinnStorm's .deb's should be used....
  4. Re: Installation of Xgl in Ubuntu 6.04 (Dapper Drake)

Is it neccessary for ATI users to reconfigure xorg.conf manually?
    Could you explain why?

Why install "transset" from the repositories when there is a plugin "transset" for Compiz?
    Or is that...
  5. Re: Installation of Xgl in Ubuntu 6.04 (Dapper Drake)

    Awesome.

Would you mind if I use this script (read: copy a large portion of the code) for a project of my own?
I'm thinking of making a Dapper CD which uses Xgl and Compiz by default.

    Why is...
  6. Re: How To: Install Xgl/compiz with Dapper, ATI, Gnome

For some reason it is working now.

Lots of stuff seems broken though.
GDM is acting strange. Firefox is acting strange. Evolution suffers from the problem described below.

    Many, many...
  7. Re: How To: Install Xgl/compiz with Dapper, ATI, Gnome

    Same problem here.
Neither the oldest ("battlehorse v1") nor the newest compiz package seem to make a difference; doesn't the problem lie at gconf-editor?

Running it manually doesn't work either...

Why are we not closing this thread and starting a new one with a decent startpost?

    Re: XGL live cd...finally

    Amazing stuff.
Would've made an XGL live CD myself if I could.

I'm noticing tons of bugs though, some of which are most probably related to my ATI videocard.

Oh and can anyone tell me what...
  11. Re: A free USB flash drive from the man himself (Balmer)

    Nice.
Hope they will accept "Student" for a company. ;)

Does anyone know what the capacity of this drive is?

I filled in "2" for that question and got the same answer back.
    "We" are right...

Re: HOWTO: Creating a iso image

And the following would work too, right (as in "Is dd limited to (CD-)drives?")?

    dd if=/etc/home/me/stuff of=$HOME/imageofstuff.iso

Re: Ubuntu Main Site Graphic Missing?

I already sent an email to the webmaster a few days ago BTW.
    Didn't get a response.

Henrik, sent you the attached screenshots (XP SP2 + IE6) over email.
As you can see, it's not just the...

    That's still piracy I'm afraid.

    This? :p

I think a simple warning is fine; legal and user-friendly.

Re: We need an add-on CD

No, when you start it (for the first time?) there's a large prompt with warnings and info. I just don't know what it says exactly.

Beside that, could the USA (because of the DMCA?) really be the...

Re: We need an add-on CD

Re: Ubuntu Main Site Graphic Missing?

Thank you for your suggestion but, beside that fact that I don't use IE, I sincerely hope the webmaster of ubuntu.com disagrees with you.

    It's still not fixed though.

    Same here.

Will look at the code and see if I can find the mistake, though I'm a very inexperienced HTML developer.

    Edit:
Actually, it is appearing here but far too low.

    Could "<h2...

    Re: Mainboard decision help

I'm not very sure about this, but thought that 1.0-1.6 were fine while 1.7-1.9 were terrible.
As a matter of fact, I remember posting a thread about it here (Dutch). I changed to 1.9, everything...
