Well, the article didn't mention removing network-manager entirely (only update-rc removing its startup entry), but I tried that and restarted and that completely disabled networking until I managed...
I meant since I'm not using wireless networking, network-manager doesn't seem to be doing me any good anyway - just an icon in my notification tray taking up space. (That would be where I'd go to...
So it's a known issue with network-manager? Can I safely remove that? (I'm not using wifi, so it's usually just sitting in the tray anyway.)
I still don't quite understand though why manually...
I have the Xfce network manager set to manual addressing (address 192.168.1.210, gateway 192.168.1.200, DNS server 192.168.1.200), which would be my guess for what's messing with my hosts file, but I...
OK, so I rebooted all of the routers and power-cycled all of the machines. Now it's not working at all:Probably doesn't help that something keeps adding that first line back at startup, but shouldn't...
OK, well I removed the mercury.home alias and it's still showing .65. It seems like what's happening here is it's going to a router (which I can't reboot at the moment) and asking it for mercury, and...
Something is definitely odd here:
...so am I 192.168.1.210 (as I wanted and as ifconfig claims), 192.168.1.65 (as host claims), or 127.0.0.1 (as traceroute claims)?
Something about this strikes me as not making any sense:How does removing this package use up 479MB, and now it no longer exists?
I'm also getting a lot of warnings lately that packages can't be...
Alright, I got A2DP working almost perfectly with Pulse so far on 10.04. All I had to do was:
The profile line was the trick; once I did that, it worked.
I did also add the PIN in...
Well, I think I've "fixed" this by switching to the onboard AC'97 sound. The problem does indeed seem to be in the CMI8738 driver. I don't hear any glitches anymore; if it goes another day or two...
...and then there's the times mplayer randomly crashes and plays EXTREMELY LOUD STATIC when I'm trying to quietly watch a movie at night. -.- Nothing appears to have shown up in any logs.
I don't really want to use OSS (unless I can have more than one program using it at a time), just it's the only engine that works properly in mpd.
Hm. Well mplayer only skips on occasion, but mpd is hardly usable. Works fine through OSS, except for only one app being able to use it at a time. :-/
Doing that, it doesn't seem to be crashing (yet), but I still get the occasional underrun error accompanied with a skip or two, which is the same problem I had on 9.04/9.10/Debian, but less frequent....
How would I change that? I'm not using the rear output at all. I played with the switches and all I found was enabling Exchange DAC and disabling Four Channel Mode (normally the reverse) results in...
Just installed 10.04 x86 and sound is cutting off after no more than about 4 minutes.
Pulseaudio gives a nice detailed error message:ALSA doesn't tell me a thing, but mpd just spontaneously pauses...
Spelling height correctly might help.
There are cases where that won't do. For example I want to run another command after the current one is done, but don't want to stop it using Ctrl+Z (maybe a time-sensitive program or something that...
I haven't actually worked on it. I tend to come up with a program idea, stash it in a todo list, and not actually do it for quite a while. It's in there, though.
I did mean a terminal emulator....
So. In 9.04 ALSA and MPD were working perfectly. In 9.10 they have several issues.
MPD either just doesn't play (progress stuck at 0:00) or skips and stutters constantly. mplayer usually plays,...
For a while I've been using rsync to back up:
sudo rsync -avHEAXxh --inplace --delete --exclude=/home/hyperhacker/video --progress --log-file=/home/hyperhacker/video/.backup.log /home/hyperhacker...
Seems every time I upgrade Xubuntu, sound gets broken somehow. This time, all three methods are not working in mplayer or mpd.
PulseAudio works for a bit, then crashes playing breakfast cereal...
I've noticed something similar; I have around 600MB of free RAM but it's still gradually using up swap space instead of that nice fast RAM. What's up with that? Swap is doubly slow for me since it...
When I use xfwm4, I can change the window border style from Settings -> Window Manager, and there are many themes available. However when I use Compiz, the only way I know to change the theme is to...
