OK, so I've recently made a fresh install of Gutsy, copied over my backed-up home directory, and went to install my favourite game, Defcon. And I get some odd textures in the wrong places!

I have heard tell of this working in Wine - but no luck myself. Can anyone verify whether it's just my system, or does this little game really not work? :(
An Atari 800XL. Technically, it was my dad's. He even programmed a couple of games for it, sent them to some PC magazine of the time, and they appeared on the coverdisk. Even later, when we were...
Do we have to narrow it down to 5? ;)
Quite possibly my favourite game EVER is Flashback: The Quest For Identity. I'm pretty sure they did a Nintendo version, but I only ever played the Mega...
 :o  :o where did you get all that free webspace?
EDIT: Looked at your profile. Pretty obvious, now ;)
I've heard reports that that installer doesn't work with Dapper. I've never got it to work for me; I had to install a static, pre-compiled version. So from the website, where it says "Linux: full,...
Both those games look nice. I tried Galaxy Mage and liked it a while ago (I was a big fan of Final Fantasy Tactics, which it reminded me of). Fantasy General seems pretty cool. The last time I used...
I hate to be negative, but...
It seems that the only open source turn-based strategy worth talking about here is Wesnoth. It's not a case of "after looking at the great and varied options...
Obviously I have already tried that. My post was about GTK+ 2.4.0, about which I find very little mention in Synaptic. The relevant part from my config.log:
configure:3409: checking for GTK+ -...
No, it's silly of me, I forget that the majority of people on these forums use Gnome. As yet, I've had no luck with anything else :/
Steve
When running configure, I get:
checking for GTK+ - version >= 2.4.0... no
*** Could not run GTK+ test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file...
I can solve number 2 :) First, set up all your windows how you want. Now, if you right click on the window's titlebar and go to Advanced -> Special Window Settings, a screen will come up with all...
Nope, but I'll have a play around :D
Edit: I haven't tried it yet but it's likely you could just change the filenames of the font files. They are stored in /var/games/tome/xtra/font - I'm gonna...
Hah! Cracked it! (No help from the in-game help)
Here goes...
Firstly when you run tome, try something like this:
tome -g -- -n4
The -g means graphics mode. The -- -n4 (those two extra...
I know, I know, give me some time!
It seems to be the same on mine. i'm gonna go away and build the latest version myself, and see what happens.
I've no idea, i don't have it installed. But it's only a click away, so I might :P
In other news previously discussed in this thread, ZangTK works perfectly under Wine :D
As I've said in another thread, maybe some kind of Automatix, but for games :)
Unfortunately, I don't have nearly enough time to spend on it, nor is my laptop really up to scratch for games.
I'll gladly join the clan though :)
I trawl it regularly. Still, it would be nice to have something to help out us gamers. For example, games like Nexuiz, Tremulous etc in the repo (or a separate games repo, of course), or even just...
Playbuntu sounds really good. :P
I'm not sure that's strictly true. The ROMs aren't legal until the company actually says so - look up abandonware. Some companies have no beef with letting you download their 20-year-old text game;...
There's still a lack of servers :( it's a shame, cos this game is good fun :)
My Steam doesn't even work unless I change directory first :/
I take it you're running through Steam?
