  1. [ubuntu] Re: what application do I open unetbootin with?

    no - just download the iso from the distro site
  2. [ubuntu] Re: what application do I open unetbootin with?

    You might find it easier to install the version in the repositories (ie from synaptic). It then appears as an app in the system menu.

    [ubuntu] Re: evolution and NHSnet (MS Exchange 2007)

    No luck so far. I have managed to connect from an android phone using the HTC Work Email program. Sadly it's closed source so I can't delve into how it's doing it.

    [ubuntu] Re: Remote login to Ubuntu

    I've currently got it installed on a 8.04 Desktop in a VM (openvz but KVM/Virtualbox should work OK). I installed it on a 'vanilla' install. I have found problems with 8.10 and 9.04 though.

    I...

    [ubuntu] Re: Remote login to Ubuntu

    I found that at first, but I'd highly customized my sshd_config file which it didn't like. Use it all the time now and it's useable even over a slow (128k) link.

    Re Security

    True it's a potential problem. It can of course be password protected and the router set up (if it supports it) to only accept connections from a specific IP. Other solutions would...

    Yes. Put the external host IP in. The port should be set automatically.

  12. [all variants] Re: Network Watchdog - Restart connection upon ping failur

    This should aggregate the replies from all the pings.

    #!/bin/bash
    HOSTS="host1 host2 host3"

    # no ping request
    COUNT=10
    RECCOUNT=0

    Ctrl-X should do it. You won't be see a 'regular' file output name shown - just go with what it defaults to.

    Try running 'select-editor' from the terminal. It should give you a choice of editors installed on your system. Pick one and rerun crontab -e. Let me know what happens.

    that's OK, this is the first time 'chris' has set up a cron job.

    Does an editor (or a choice of which one to use) then appear?

    Sorry, Java's not a strong point of mine. You might get more luck asking on one of the Android Developer forums.
