[ubuntu] Re: dell with no os in uk

Good luck with that. I've bought two netbooks from Dell with Ubuntu pre-installed a while ago but they stopped selling them with Ubuntu a while back (at least in the UK). I tried to ask a sales rep...

Re: UNITY = farewell ubuntu for professionals

I personally believe that Canonical is only right at the beginning of what they want to achieve with the UI. As to their target audience? I'm unsure but I would have to somewhat agree with the OP.
  4. Re: Anyone able to use Nvidia 173 drivers with Unity or GS?

Do not rely on glxgears, it's not meant for benchmarking. A much more reliable test would be using something like OpenArena.

Re: Slow scrolling/laggy typing in Geany/Gedit

Xorg CPU usage jumps straight to ~60% and beyond with Gedit and Compiz coming second and third with ~5%. I can't see anything else significant. It doesn't happen straight away either, it seems to...

Re: Slow scrolling/laggy typing in Geany/Gedit

My hardware isn't great but it's not bad either. I have an AMD 64 X2 5600+, 4GB ram and onboard Geforce 8200 which handles most things pretty well, outside of gaming at least (from what little of...

    Slow scrolling/laggy typing in Geany/Gedit

Has anyone experienced slow performance in Geany/Gedit? CPU reaches 100% while scrolling. The experience is like running the application over a slow network.

I've read there was a similar issue in...
  8. Re: Disabling Guest Session.. Security / Privacy risk

Turns out I never looked at the source properly. There's an example config in there which includes the following:

    # General configuration
    # start-default-seat = True to always start one...
  9. Re: Disabling Guest Session.. Security / Privacy risk

Yup, that works. Would be nice if documentation existed for it though.
  10. Re: Disabling Guest Session.. Security / Privacy risk

Indeed. I believe the only alternative is
    dpkg-reconfigure gdm Select GDM then
    apt-get remove gdm-guest-session

Shame because lightdm looks pretty slick.
  11. Re: Disabling Guest Session.. Security / Privacy risk

I've had a quick glance at the source code and I can't seem to find anything to that would indicate that guest sessions are configurable right now. I've asked the same question on LP...

[ubuntu] Re: My purchased music won't download

I've just purchased my first ever digital album, and what's more, I did it using Ubuntu One!

I did encounter a minor issue with not being able to transfer some tracks to Ubuntu One storage but...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: User www-data runs ./stealth on external IP port 53

I found the same process running on my machine today. I thought I was careful but it was actually uploaded using a zencart exploit. I had stupidly left and forgotten about a copy of zen (unpatched)...

Teamspeak, Linux really needs a proper native client. Not the crap they claim is the Linux version.
  15. Re: Howto: Install latest version of Midori [Browser]

Nice howto, especially including how to add the keys. :)

Been watching Midori pretty closely and deserves a lot more recognition than it gets. Getting a bit fedup with the performance of Firefox...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Black or transparent areas and 'smearing' windows. Jaunty

I have a very similar problem but my graphics card is an nvidia. I've been searching for solutions to the problem and trying different things myself and found nothing thus far.

    I've tried to take...

Re: Lord Of The Rings Online (LOTRO)?

I found this happens because the LOTRO installer installs MSVC runtime (just after trying to install .NET) which seems to screw everything up. Not sure, but maybe this is why the download version is...
