[ubuntu] Re: Can't enable wireless power saving ?

Bump - I still seem unable to invoke wireless power saving on wlan0 for my Lenovo X220 (running 12.04 with all updates installed). Indeed, disabling the network interface doesn't seem to actually...

[ubuntu] Re: Ipod nano 6th Gen (touch screen)

I certainly hope so, I'm sick of dual booting just for the sake of loading music onto my nano 6g...

[ubuntu] Re: Can't enable wireless power saving ?

"sudo iwconfig wlan0 power on" returns :

[ubuntu] Can't enable wireless power saving ?

This should be a simple fix, but I can't seem to find a straight-forward answer anywhere. Powertop indicates that one of the biggest power drains on my laptop (Lenovo x220) is the iwlan0. Under the...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Freeze / hang problem on ThinkPad X220 in Natty

I've been having this problem on my x220 with both 11.04, and now 11.10, on both Unity and Gnome Shell. Did anyone ever pin down what's going on ?
  6. [ubuntu] Re: HORRIBLE 11.10 battery life - fix anytime soon?

    Jupiter + those grub additions.

I have powertop installed, but haven't been using it. As I mentioned earlier, I don't really understand the new powertop interface with the version packaged in...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: HORRIBLE 11.10 battery life - fix anytime soon?

I've managed to bump it up to an estimated 9+ hours with screen around 70% brightness and wifi/bluetooth both on by adding those additional parameters to my grub conf, which now reads :
    ...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: HORRIBLE 11.10 battery life - fix anytime soon?

I spoke too soon, Jupiter is indeed helping - I seem to be bumped up to ~6h30m now. Again though, that's still half what Windows 7 offers. FYI I've applied this fix to at least keep my core temps...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: HORRIBLE 11.10 battery life - fix anytime soon?

Thanks for the Jupiter tip, but the only function it seems to offer is manually selecting the "power saver" performance mode, which I'd think my computer already hopped into automatically when I...
  10. [ubuntu] HORRIBLE 11.10 battery life - fix anytime soon?

I updated from 11.04 to 11.10 earlier this week, and though I'd heard reports of increased power usage on oneric, this is crazy.

    I have a relatively new Lenovo x220 (core i7) with a 9-cell...

  12. [ubuntu] Re: Can't disable screen lock after suspend ??

Sorry to bump, but does anyone else have any insight?
  13. [ubuntu] Re: Can't disable screen lock after suspend ??

Have double checked and reset all the gnome-power-manager settings in gconf-editor, to no avail. Any other ideas ?
  14. [ubuntu] Can't disable screen lock after suspend ??

I recently upgraded from Lucid to Maverick I can't seem to disable screen lock after resume from suspend. It's a minor annoyance, but still a considerable annoyance to have to enter my password...

[ubuntu] Re: ubuntu 10.10 suspend issue

Was having this problem on my Acer 3810t laptop as well - half the time suspended without issue, half the time would dump to a cursor and freeze entirely requiring hard reboot (wouldn't even respond...

    [ubuntu] Re: Acer Timeline 3810T

:D INCREDIBLE!!! Works here on my 3810t (su9400) running Lucid. Joy! :D
  17. Re: HOWTO: Install ePSXe on Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit and 32 bit.

+1. Successfully installed on 10.04 Lucid, but as others have mentioned, no sound and can't use the arrow keys on my laptop. Arrow keys aren't too big a deal, but not having sound irks me - tempted...

    [ubuntu] Re: Acer Timeline 3810T

    +1

I've never had HD playback problems (su9400 dualcore), and even with wireless, a handful of firefox tabs, and banshee all running I get 10,4 watts and 6h40min power estimates - jumps closer to...

    [ubuntu] Re: Acer Timeline 3810T

Me as well - my hard drive seems to be a lemon too though (constant write errors, commits timestamps in the future, occasionally won't even show up in bios). Has been complicated to figure out how...
  21. [ubuntu] Re: URGENT: internal HD spontaneously becomes write-protected

Update incase anybody else experiences this issue : while older releases didn't resolve anything, the new Karmic beta seems to be controlling the HD correctly. Phew.
  22. [ubuntu] Re: URGENT: internal HD spontaneously becomes write-protected

The laptop usually ends up winding down then sits with a blinking cursor instead of actually powering off. So no, not entirely, though according to most of the messages it gives me in the terminal...
  23. [ubuntu] Re: URGENT: internal HD spontaneously becomes write-protected

Indeed it does. Just rebooted into recovery and ran fsck as suggested. All sorts of errors were found. fsck seems to have fixed them without too much trouble.

The question is though, why would...
  24. [ubuntu] Re: URGENT: internal HD spontaneously becomes write-protected

I've fully reformatted the HD and have put 9.04 on there, and the error has cropped back up, which is why I'm worrying that it might be hardware.

Could something about the MBR have gotten borked...
  25. [ubuntu] URGENT: internal HD spontaneously becomes write-protected

I'm really perplexed on this one and am desperate for help - will be moving to Europe in 3 days, so need to get this resolved asap. Sincerely hope it isn't a hardware failure.

    I have a new Acer...
