This seems pretty complicated for my simple task. I'm scared. :^) Just kidding, but it does seem rather complex to setup. What else ya got? Thanks for the ideas!
Sorry about the non-ubuntu question. Anyone know of a server monitoring agent I can install to monitor our red hat server? I just need something simple that will *email me when network activity is...
In case the title isn't clear, let me rephrase. I created a bootable plop linux usb drive using the iso and unetbootin. I booted it and ran partimage. I selected the local internal hard drive I...
Thanks you guys.

Oh yeah, everything looks fine until I start the format. Like I said, the zeroing worked fine without any errors, so it pops up in the system fine.
Is buying a Dell with Ubuntu preinstalled an option for you? We gotta support the manufacturers who stick their butts on the line for linux, ya know?
In gnome, under the battery tab in power preferences, the only setting for this is to select shutdown for when "battery is critically low." Not sure how low, but I believe this will do the trick for...
A friend on mine asked to reinstall his OS for him. The plan was to do a Ubuntu/XP dual boot. He left his HDD but not his computer. Unfortunately, my desktop died, so I cannot install the HDD into an...
Last Update (solved): My file was too short- less than a second. Apparently TB doesn't like that. As of lately, ubuntuforums helps by letting me work it out. I guess I can't complain.
Update: I copied the system wav from /usr/share/sounds... to ~/Documents folder. Browsed to Documents in TB prefs, and selected the system wav. It plays. So I figured it must be something to do with...

All I want to do is play a wav file for email notifications. It is a wav file less than a second long I found online. I entered TB prefs, browsed for the file, but it wouldn't play. It plays with...
I disconnected the hard drive while trying to boot the Ubuntu live cd. I hope it's just a PSU because I cannot afford to replace much else.
Thanks for the reply, but I think you may have misunderstood what I was doing when I booted Ubuntu. Neither OS on the dual boot hard drive will boot at all. The only thing I was able to do with...
When I woke up this morning, my desktop (web server) was powered off. I turned it on, watched the bios screen pop up then disappear. Got to the Grub bootloader screen and selected Windows XP from the...
Thanks. Real quick, would this would without the switch and just use a crossover cable to each individual computer?
I have a dozen or so older desktops running XP in a remote location in our building. Rather than moving them, I would like to use my laptop to connect to the internet for their updates. Can I somehow...
You got it! Thanks a ton.
I don't know why I can't figure this one out. I have a game that I play (Urban Terror) and I usually use gnome-do to run it, but I came across a situation where I wanted to run it from the terminal. ...
Have you tried restarting?: $ killall gnome-panel
I have a a105-s4284 and I gave up on my fn key a long time ago. If you find a solution, I'd really appreciate a reply.
I've heard no particular complaints for that model. I say go with it. Make sure not to be cheap with the warranty options. Dell is excellent with handling warranty issues.
