I found the cd I used to install this thing and when the machine booted up it was in a "demo" install with me as a user called ubuntu and the partition already...

Yeah... I was just reading that ;). And I just got the share humming along.

So I guess this its time for a re-install.

I was trying to add my user to a group and used the command
sudo usermod -G sambashare_kid dev which left me with:)


uid=1000(dev) gid=1000(dev) groups=1000(dev),1002(sambashare_kid)

the group only has r-x permissions. I ran the following and I'm good


sudo chmod -R g+w share

...using 11.04

I don't understand... why does my account not have writes to this directory.

take a look at this thread that I started with the same issue. I just got this working between 2 win7 and an ubuntu 11.04 machine.

The issue was on the WIN7 side. What i did (although I suspect that only the last two mattered):

I'll try it. So SAMBA acts as a proxy shuttling messages back and forth and it is not able to resolve the name to the IP? Am I understanding that correctly?
