That was the solution! I deleted the folder, opened Libre Office Writer, and it has opened and lets me work with my files now.
Thanks!
Thanks, all. I'll try these approaches this evening and report back.
I use Firefox for generic web surfing, You Tubes, news sites, and the like, while I use Chrome for work and programming related stuff. Each one has its own desktop workspace. Seems to suit me fine.
It's the standard Libre Office that came installed with the Ubuntu 17.04 distribution that I installed a couple of months ago. The Kubuntu desktop is something I added in later, and it shouldn't...
No, same issue. I get the LibreOffice logo appearing momentarily, then it simply disappears with no message.
Good idea. I'll try that.
I'm running both Unity and Kubuntu desktops on my laptop, with the idea of slowly weaning myself away from Unity once GNOME becomes the default. I'm learning the KDE Plasma 5.9 desktop, and for the...
When I first log into the the Kubuntu Plasma desktop, things look quite nice, but after a certain amount of time working in it -- it seems random so far -- I notice that apps lose their menus. The...
My intent was to upgrade to 17.04, so that I could have access to Kubuntu with Plasma 5.9. I fell for the hype, essentially. But since you ca't leapfrog versions in an upgrade, I had to upgrade to...
Hmm, yes I did have an Nvidia graphics driver installed, although I thought I had disabled third-party software prior to the upgrade. Maybe that wasn't what I did. The system was definitely up to...
I've been running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS quite happily since it came out. The recent news about the impending death of Unity combined with curiosity about the new KDE 5.9 Plasma desktop motivated me to...
I'd probably go back to being a hunter-gatherer like I was before.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a compatibility bug with carrying KDE as a dual desktop. We'll soon find out!
It's time, I guess. I used to be a big fan of Kubuntu, and kept looking for reasons to use it exclusively. Problem is, Ubuntu keeps getting better and more elegant, and KDE continues to seem rather...
Two things happened since this post. First, I went to sudo apt update, then sudo apt full-upgrade. I restarted my computer, and the display server is now trashed. I can only log in in TTY mode. ...
No, this came directly from the Ubuntu upgrade notifications. The packages state 'xenial'. I didn't even know I had an 'account-plugin-facebook' file until I got the error on the upgrade attempt,...
The following packages are specifically listed the etc/apt/sources.list
53 deb http://qgis.org/debian xenial main # disabled on upgrade to wily disabled on upgrade to xenial

I tried running a distribution upgrade from 15.10 to 16.04, but only got to the step of checking packages before I generated the following error message:
Could not calculate the upgrade

So, I removed the spare hard drive and ran Boot-repair again. It seemed to be a completely different application this time, and it gave me the option to purge Grub and reinstall it. I had to run...
Thank you kindly for that. Here is my boot-info report:

I looked it over, and interestingly enough I saw no operating system for 15.10. I don't think that's good.

I'm running Ubuntu 15.10 on an Acer Aspire V3-772G-9460 Laptop. It came with Windows 8.1, which I removed right away, and for about 2 years now I've had only Ubuntu on it.
It's always had boot...
Plain vanilla Ubuntu Unity for me. I started out as a KDE fan, but it seems to be getting more inadequate with each release. I just checked out Kubuntu 15.04 yesterday, and a lot of the old KDE...
No reason to get married to a distro if you don't feel like it. Play around. Stray if you want. Don't make promises you can't keep. Nobody's feelings will be hurt. Settle down when you feel...
Well, I stumbled on *a* solution, no genius here. If I attached the VGA and the HDMI cables to the laptop at the same time, and then removed JUST the VGA cable, the HDMI connected and remained...
